1 moTrains will take over. There's something called a vacuum train which is exactly as it sounds. It's designed to have zero air resistance and move up to 4000km/h which is approximately 4 times faster than commercial planes. They'll be all over the place and get people to destinations in no time.
As for what I prefer... definitely trains. They're more spacious and comfortable and don't make my ears pop (yes I've tried all the tricks to prevent it, but it still happens and pretty badly at that). I'd rather take a longer time to get to a destination but actually enjoy the ride.
On planes it doesn't matter if you get the window seat, aisle seat or middle seat. They all suck. Unless you're flying first class, you generally have little to no leg room, pretty uncomfortable sleep positions, and when you need to go to the washroom, you either have to make others get up awkwardly, get up every time they have to go to, or both.10 Reply

1 moDefine better. If I need to be 3,000 miles away for a meeting tomorrow, nothing beats a plane travelling at 550 mph. If I want a novelty (for me) and I want a slower relaxed ride with scenery, a train rolling along at 65 mph is "better".
We have a (sorta) high speed rail service here called Acella. Going from New York to Washington DC takes about the same time on Acella or flying when you include travel time to area airports, parking, airport security, etc. Plus, the train is a fraction of the cost and puts me right in the city or 20 min from my home on the return. And business class on Acella is really nice. I'll usually choose the train.

1 moEntirely depends on the journey. I use both regularly. If I can go by train in less than 3 hours with one or no change, I will probably take that unless the flight is significantly cheaper. If it takes much longer then there's also no point and flight is clearly faster and cheaper.

1 moI've never used a train for travel before, just a day trip where you go to the top of a mountain or something like that and come back down a few hours later. Those are great because of the scenery but in most cases I'll take the plane because it's faster.

AskPlane and train each win in different ways.
Plane is better for long distances, saving a lot of time, especially for international trips, but itโs often more stressful with security, delays, and tight space.
Train is usually more comfortable, scenic, and eco-friendly, with easier boarding and more legroom.
So: long distance or tight schedule, plane; comfort and shorter regional trips, train.00 Reply

GaG has a way of putting things in the wrong category, and then sending you a message that it has moved it to a new category, asking you politely to be more careful.
Plane vs. train? Plane trips less than an hour involve practically half a day's travel, between check in, moving around in a huge airport and waiting for your luggage at your destination. Add to that the fact that airports - by definition - are never close to the city center and it adds even more time.
So train for shorter trips, plane for longer trips over several thousands of km.
But you can be fashionable on a plane and beautiful on a train. All combinations are possible.
10 ReplyJust had this conversation today on a journey on a bus with a colleague. I used to like flying but these days it is such a drag that the aviation industry needs to be held to account for the "cheaper to start and stop more and flying longer" idea that makes hug and spoke industry a fucking pain in the ass for passengers.
11 ReplyI enjoy the train we take to Florida. They load our car on and we get a bedroom. Itโs an overnight trip and you go from Washington DC and wake up in Orlando. Flying is fine but a hassle.

I like the convenience of trains.
It takes less to board one compared to a plane.
But I donโt look very long trips by train just to skip a short flight.
Whatever gets me there quicker is usually the best choice.10 Reply
1 moI guess it depends on where I'm traveling to. If it's up the east coast then train but if it's further out like westward then certainly the plane. Or if it's overseas, plane as well.

1 moWell planes are way faster. Trains are nicer because they can never get enough people on them to be annoying There is also less security on a train. So it depends

s 1 mobelieve it or not... I have never taken any of these, so
I'll imagine... that I would much rather to get in a train first, moreso if the scenery is an amazing one10 Reply If you consider time, it's plane, but if you are travelling to a place where the journey's scenery is beautiful, then you should go by train for the experience...

1 moIt depends on what you want to do. Haul cargo or passengers at low rate in high numbers or do you need speed and serious distance. If so then planes.
10 Reply1.6K opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. Air travel has been really messed up with the long lines and cavity searches. I do not think I would ever fly again. I took the Amtrack train to New York and it was very pleasant

I've always loved riding on a train.🚂 🚃10 Reply440 opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. Train for me since I got ears that are very sensitive to air pressure difference. The landing of a plane is literal torture for me.

10 ReplyPlane. In effect, trains don't exist for 90% of people
10 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. Planes. When I go places, I want to be there as quickly as possible.
10 ReplyI donโt think thereโs better. They both have their advantages and drawbacks. I guess the deciding factor would be time. How long you want to travel or commute.

1 moTrain you get to see the country side much closer and it consumes far less fuel. i think it can carry more cargo too. we really oughtta bring more trains back.

1 moThe only way I would take a plane is if I have to cross a body of water. For relatively short journeys I would take the train.
10 ReplyIt depends on how far I have to go. For a shorter trip a train is fine. For longer ones flying is best
10 Reply665 opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. This depends on where I'm planning to go and how long I want to be gone. Planes are much costlier than trains, but not nearly as comfortable, generally speaking.
