Here are at least 2 reasons why I refuse to relocate to another state, city, or country
1. I Value My Friends & Family
By moving to another state or city, I would lose emotional support I get from my friends & families. As a result, I would feel very lonely in new state or city. Thus, I would refuse relocation opportunity to maintain the emotional support I get from my friends & families.
2. I am Vulnerable to Home Sickness
I know very well that my body & mind is very sensitive to home sickness. Because my body & mind is sensitive to homesickness, I would get stressed out if I lived in new state, city, or country. Therefore, I would decline relocation to maintain my physical & mental health.
3. I Value Stability that Comes With Living in Silicon Valley
I value stability that comes with living in Silicon Valley because my mind is peaceful when I live in Sunnyvale, California. As a result of relocating to new state, city, or country, I would lose stability that I value so much. Hence, I will reject relocation to maintain my stability.
4. I am Sensitive to Culture Shock
My body is sensitive to culture shock caused by relocating to new state, city, or country. As a result, I would become very sick if I experience culture shock. Thus, I will avoid relocation because I don't want to wreck my health trying to respond to culture shock.

I can only address the last two of your contentions. The first two are perfectly sensible and would apply anywhere.

Short of having a REALLY great job that is secure, or short of having a "Parental Homestead" to where you can always retreat, how can you call that area "Stable"? For the record, I grew up in San Jose when it was still largely "an IBM town". (See Also Lockheed, National Semiconductor, Hewlett Packard, FMC, and so on). But that world is long since gone, and what replaced it is an utterly unstable "Start up culture".

The Greater San Jose are has changed so much in the last three decades that I cannot see how you have not experienced said culture shock. Then again, I am an oldster, so maybe you have not been around as long.
I never thought of Sunnyvale as a place one would get attached to...
A real homebody then...
