And what body of water, specifically, do you love most or have the fondest memories of?
Tell us a story or memory.

The Pacific Ocean, Southern California coast for its cool, sweet smelling off-shore breeze and sunsets.
Beginning in my mid-teens, I surfed for over ten years, often every day. I visited many beaches from Malibu to Laguna. Seal Beach, Bolsa Chica and Huntington were the ones I frequented most often.
Here's one story. When I was about 17 or so, I was surfing Bolsa Chica. There were some big waves that day and I paddled way outside. I as sitting there on my board waiting for a wave when a dorsal fin cut through the water less than 50' from me. I freaked out, paddled frantically, caught the first wave that came along, and belly boarded that sucker all the way to the beach. I practically paddled up onto the dry sand like in a cartoon. I was about to warn everyone "Shark! Shark!" when I saw the fin again, and then another. To my embarrassment, I realized that what I had seen was a dolphin. sigh You live and learn. Silly wabbit.
I actually do get sea sick. I'm fine when the boat is plowing through the water. It's fun. But if the boat parks, like fishing in the ocean or whale watching, the constant bobbing up and down and in every direction makes me horribly sick. It's worse than the worst hangover. It's weird, because I'm not prone to any other kind of motion sickness.
Hmm.
I'm very unpredictable when it comes to motion sickness.
I'm a complete wimp when it comes to rides at amusement parks. You do not want to go with me. My legs were shaking so badly after the 'Big Thunder' railroad ride at Disneyland, I could barely walk. My husband had to find a place for me to sit down. I think it was all the rattling. And of course, 'Objects may appear closer than they are' heh heh.

Don't get sick on big jets, but did feel a bit nauseated when in the back seat of a 4-seater plane, which I bought as a birthday gift for my husband so he could have a flying lesson. Again, I wasn't too scared, but the air currents over the LA mountains did a number on me.
Yet I have been on boats (do you know that floating passenger ferry on the way to Catalina Island?) where guys are puking their guts out at the back of boat, trying to hide, and I'm perfectly fine.
Yet my stomach feels funny in a car if we go over a hill!
Life is an adventure with me, never a dull day.
I haven't recovered from seeing Jaws in the '70s. I used to think Jaws was after me on the way to the bathroom... in my house.
Just like Penny in the Big Bang Theory says... "Oh voodoo? You don't mess with voodoo."
Cue music from Jaws. LOL "Land shark."
Yes. I've ridden on that ferry to Catalina. No probs. I stood on the bow, felt the spray in my face and watched flying fish.
My sister used to get car sick on winding roads. My mom would keep a coffee can with a plastic lid in the car for that eventuality. As a result of puking into a coffee can, to this day, the smell of coffee makes my sister sick. Lol
I've ridden many times in private planes and never felt queasy. I actually love it. I might get butterflies at times, but never sick.
A friend flew me out to Mojave airport to let me ride in his two seater (older military-style) jet. The pilot who was going to be flying it asked me if I ever got air sick. I said no. He said he took another guy up and the guy got sick and puked down inside his T-shirt to keep from getting it all over the plane. Eeeeewwwww! Lol
There is a place in Petaluma where you can buy airplane rides. They have a couple WWII P-40s and a couple of Stearman's. My wife is going to buy me ride for my birthday the next time we get out there. But I want to check to see if the pilot will do aerobatics in the Stearman. I'm a WWI airplane buff and one thing on my bucket list has always been to do aerobatic combat maneuvers in an open seat biplane.
I've never gotten sick on a carnival or thrill ride, but then again, there are some carnival rides that I have no interest in trying. Some seem purposely designed to make people puke. I have ridden every ride at places like Disneyland and Magic Mountain, though.
You mentioned that Big Thunder ride. I remember when it was it was a lovely ride called Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. I loved that family ride as a kid. It was magical. It makes me sad that everything these days has to be a "thrill" ride. It's an indication that there is something wrong with our culture.
Snl: "Candygram."
Your sister: Oh noooo. Poor girl. I've got to remember that one.
The guy in the plane: Oh maaaaan. Well it's the captain's fault for not having a bag or something.
You need to watch that fighter pilot documentary I mentioned in my 'historical footage' mytake. It's pretty amazing.
Space Mountain was my opus. I have a photo of me screaming to prove it. Ah the things we do for love.
Yesssss. Everything is amped up. 'Maximum pleasure for maximum fun.' I just made that up. (insert Japanese accent or something here.)
I don't blame the pilot. You don't hand out barf bags when you buckle someone into a fighter jet. The passenger did the right thing by pulling up the collar of his T-shirt and hurling inside it. When I was on that ride, the pilot did some super cool stuff. He was a test pilot so he really knew what he was doing. Yipppeeee! I even got to take the controls and do some simple rolls.
I'll have to check out that documentary you mentioned.
"Masimum presu fo masimum fun." Haha
When I look back and compare entertainment over the years, from amusement park rides to film, I think we are on an unhealthy trajectory. People need ever greater thrills and are increasingly inured to violence. The escalation has been intensifying gradually.
Places that popped up in the 1950s like Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland and Santa's Village were fun for the whole family from young children to grand parents. They also had educational aspects. Now, everything is about adrenaline.
Movies have become increasingly violent, graphic and full of visual and audio effects designed to boost adrenaline.
I'm not an old fuddy duddy, I'm just making an observation.
Well, I still have yet to find my tropical waterfall, it’s probably off in the South Pacific somewhere, haha.
For now, I’d probably say the Atlantic Ocean since I like the beach and I live on the East Coast (the water at Venice Beach was crazy warm though, which was nice, but strangely less refreshing, like you didn’t feel like you were beating the heat). Also, I’d go with Squam Lake up in New Hampshire. I go bass fishing there several times a year. That place is absolutely pristine👌

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawnee_State_Park_(Pennsylvania)
Shawnee State Park is named for Shawnee Creek, a stream which flowed through the area and was dammed to create the recreational lake at the park. The creek was named for the Shawnee, a Native American tribe that once lived in many parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky. They were forced from their lands in Ohio and Kentucky by invading Iroquois, the powerful five-nation confederacy based in western New York. Later the Shawnee were forced west out of Ohio by encroachment by settlers of the Thirteen Colonies.
The area surrounding the park was used as a trade route and military road during the French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years' War). General John Forbes built the Forbes Road (which the modern-day U. S. Highway 30 parallels) to send supplies from the ports in Philadelphia and Baltimore to a force of British soldiers under his command as he tried to capture Fort Duquesne from the French in 1758.
The park was authorized by the 1947 Session of the Legislature of Pennsylvania. Construction of the dam began in 1949 and it was completed in 1951, when the park opened to the public.
The lake was declared "full" on March 4, 1951, when water began pouring down the breast of the dam.
The first person to drown in the lake was Robert Mowry, age 17, of Schellsburg, on June 28, 1951, only a few months after the park opened.
When i was teenager , my Sunday School class in which my late Great Aunt Ramah taught us , we all went with the class to the park , i remember my late Great Uncle Homer taking me and the Pastors Daughter out in rowboat , all i can remember is me getting into that boat and it started rocking back and forth.. But this is the memories i have of this my Uncle and Aunt cooked Hamburgers , Hotdogs , etc , We had a great day :)
East of Salt Lake City in Big Cottonwood canyon is a locally known but not widely published waterfall that falls through the roof of a cave. It's called Donut Hole Falls, and it's a hike to get back to it. But I have always loved that cave, It's a tween place and wonderful. You can get under the falls, but their icy cold even in summer and have enough force to take your breath away. The photos were taken by me.

the Atlantic Ocean! i grew up looking at it every day and then moved away for 29 years. and i missed it sooo much! now i am back and looking at it every day again and it calms and soothes my soul, makes me want to cry, dance, laugh, scream! and i love the rain, too! best thing is swimming at night when it is raining - soooo beautiful!
I wish the video was available to watch!
I have a fondness for the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Maine. My great-aunt has a house right there on the water front. When the tide is low, you can find so many sand dollars! It's unreal! Crab catching, sea glass finding... I have some great memories from being there as a kid and taking my own daughter.
Yes! See my comment to 1stranger
I'm not sure what to do about it, what the workaround could be. I've informed the site long ago about this bug.

Oh you mean TYPE of body?
I thought you meant like a specific body of water, 'cuz I was gonna say the Mediterranean.
But from THOSE? Waterfalls

by the way, streams, creeks, brooks are really just RIVERS.
Yeah I was sort of trying to combine two ideas. I'd like to see what types of bodies of water, but ALSO what specific locations, worldwide.
Thanks for the notation. I was trying to differentiate that the velocity and turbulence can make quite a difference in how it makes a person feel, psychologically/emotionally, therefore whitewater vs. the calmer part of a large river vs. where they narrow down to a trickle... they all have more calming or stimulating effects. And all oceans are certainly not the same. But if I only asked 'what's your favourite place with water?' they might only think locally, what they have experienced, rather than being unlimited by anywhere on the globe.
You are the perfect person to answer this because you are such a traveller and lover of this stuff.
Yeah, my geology teacher said it's just a "river". The other terms are misleading and inaccurate, because size and velocity fluctuate. So he said ANY running water is a river.
I know. This question was perfect for me. But yes, the Mediterranean is my favorite, 100%
There are no tides and no hurricanes/tsunamis and you can still swim and snorkel there.
The sea or ocean - I was in Malta last month and Mediterranean sea was just gorgeous
Sea or ocean. And wine. And sunset. And.. and..😄😄
And video didn't open.
Yeah, damn vids don't play unless you're logged in on the web version. It's a programming bug within the app across all mobile devices.
Here you go:
https://youtu.be/EkvazIZx-F0
The video link will not play for this reason listed in it's error message: "Playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner." Meaning for that video, you would need to watch it on Youtube.
@GirlsAskGuys Yes but what's the workaround? How can I post links that people can click on?
In the link you've posted here, the address to the video is still available even in the error message that comes up which users or you can copy/highlight in their browser and it takes you to youtube where you or they can view it.
All of the above?
We have a family cabin on a lake in Northern Ontario. I grew up on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. I have been whitewater kayaking a few times.
I guess all of the above, but the lazy river is just kind of ok.
I drive across the St. Johns River quite often. It is historic and beautiful, almost three miles wide at its widest point.
None had a near death drowning experience when I was a child. You’ll never see me near any.
I did
Caribbean Sea. The water is beautiful and clear. It reminds me of my first time to Jamaica.
Wisconsin dells, WI river
Lots of family memories there
Favorite body of water? Lake Tahoe, of course.
Followed closely by my private, natural geo- thermal heated 96 degree pool.
The Pacific. I practically grew up in it and it will always be a part of me.
I love rain and water so it doesn't matter to me really. Lol
Atlantic Ocean since I’m near the beach that it’s at
either the med or the black sea as both are very calm most of the time
Bathtub
Probably the ocean. Hard to say. I love water.
The ocean looks the most beautiful.
I love my Mediterranean
Widewater Lagoon in West Sussex, UK
