My cars had bench seats a long time ago. They allowed for 3 passengers in the front seat. You could put your cooler or gym bag right next to you. They were also way better for certain extra curricular activities. I do not think anybody makes a bench seat anymore. Would you prefer one?
I have a 91 silverado, extended cab so I actually do have the original bench seat for my back seats.
Sadly I do not have bench seats for my front seats because I have bucket seats with a console in-between the driver and passenger seats.
However I am completely restoring the entire truck along with the interior, seats and everything so I might tear the console out and replace the seats with bench seats for the front as well. As long as I can find some that can move/recline so that people can still get to the back seats an that would actually fit in the truck.

A center console and cup holders are sure handy in cars that have bucket seats.
My first cars had bench seats. The big advantage of those was when you were with a girl. You could put your arm around her and she could snuggle up while driving.
It was great for going to drive-in movies with her. Really handy for BJs and even sex.I had a girlfriend that had a front bench seat. It was nice for all to sit in the front as sometimes the one in back can't hear very well. One day six of us were cruising the beach along PCH. Then one in the front seat and one in the back seat - the ones sitting by the right doors - ducked down to tie their shoes or something. Then at the light some guys were staring at us and laughing. Like wtf were they laughing at? It turned out it looked like we were 2 gay couples sitting close together and side by side in the car. 🥰 So by the next light everyone but the driver was ducking down. Of course, that only happened once. After that we knew when one ducked down then we all ducked down. 😋 😂🤣
I grew up with bench seats. When real little, I used to sit on the front seat between my parents.
Bench seats have disappeared for a reason. Center console and gear shift is one of them. No longer is the shifter on the steering wheel like it was with bench seats. Safety is another reason. And I must admit, bucket seats are much more comfortable, especially on long drives.
So, unless I'm driving a vintage 1963 Rambler (which has bench seats), I'll stay with bucket seats, no bench.
I had 2 cars with bench seats , a 1971 Holden Kingswood , and a 1977 LH Holden Torana , I drove both multiple times from Melbourne to Queensland , and where the bench seat was great , was on really long trips like this , I'd go Caravan parks and sleep in the car ( now sure this could be done in the back also ) ..
I'd have my arm around my baby , as I would speed though central Australia , with no ABS breaks , and the old steering , where you had to actually steer 5555 . No Aircon , but we had windows. Probably not that safe 5555 . OMG imagine Thais with no ABS breaks , no thanks.
It was a kinda surfing theme , it was pretty great fun. Would I want the seats now? Probably not , but can see the appeal for sure.
No, I don't like bench seats at all. It's too easy to slide across them in a steep turn.
I far prefer well-designed comfortable bucket seats which are much safer and don't hurt my back.
Years ago, the only thing that the bench seats were good for when I was very young was sex.I love bench seats. My Mom 63 Chevy Impala had them in the front and the back.
My first real boyfriend would go to the drive-in and end up on his back seat bench seat. We would make out all night and fall asleep. We'd wake up in the middle of the night and we were the only one's left in the parking lot. 😅🤣😂- u
Yes, with a bench seat, your sweetie could snuggle up real close!
My first car was a prehistoric Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. It had a split bench seat with some dishing for the driver and shotgun passenger. But it was continuous and the armrest provided support for a middle passenger. It wasn't a Fast and Furious ride, so the seats were good.
I feel like thatโs the โsecretโ manufacturer option for fat people! 😛
I drove a worker van once, with three seats in the front and cargo area in the back. It had three single seats though, not a bench. As long as I still have cupholders on the dash, I love bench seats
My longitudinal 'bench' is just right for me.
But if it's a four-wheeler made before the 1950's or so - I may accept it, too.Ewww, no. They are horribly uncomfortable and far less safe.
I never liked bench seats in the front. I always had bucket seats. Those " extra curricular activities " always took place in the back seat
Core memory unlocked. 🔓
I prefer old vehicles, so I suppose I do.
