Listen, miss pink anon-I live internationally for a living so I can help you if you need it. There is actually some good web articles out there you can read, so start by googling 'how to travel internationally for the first time.'
Yes Passport is the very first thing. Go get that tomorrow. in the States we can go directly to our Post Office. So get on that TOMORROW.
Next, if i were you, Id pick the dates-i think you should plan on the fall to see Japan, im betting it would be beautiful-besides it might take a month or so to get your passport.
next buy your ticket. That's when you are really committing yourself, like putting your money where your mouth is. I used to use a booking website like Expedia, but now I go straight to Delta for my tickets.
Figure out how long you want to travel in Japan, and then buy your tickets accordingly.
I could go on and on and on, but you, the real fun of traveling is find everything out for yourself?
But if you have any questions at all about anything feel free to ask, anon. Im an expert at this NOW GO GET YOUR PASSPORT!!

Yo travelling for the first time can definitely be intimidating! But Japan sounds so dope, you gotta make it happen girl. Here's some tips:
- Def get that passport asap, then start researching flights online. Sites like Expedia are easy to find direct flights to Tokyo or other cities. Book well in advance for best prices.
- Make sure to pack light - just the essential clothes and toiletries. Leave room in your bags for souvenirs!
- Download the Japan Transit app so you can navigate the subway/trains with English translations. Having WiFi will help if you get lost too.
- Look into a pocket WiFi you can rent at the airport for internet on the go. Or get a Japan SIM card for your phone.
- Consider signing up for a Japan Rail Pass if you plan on doing a lot of travel between cities by train. It saves $$.
- Don't sweat getting turned around at first. Japanese people are super nice and will wanna help lost gaijin (foreigners) like us.
You got this cuz! Traveling solo takes courage but also allows so much freedom. Lmk if any other questions - I'm always down to help plan your epic Japan trip!
- Check the immigration requirements for your destination (current passport, visa, vaccination...)
- Decide your level of autonomy (all inclusive vacation package, hotel+flight, flights only...)
- Read about the local laws, customs and recommendations
- Organize local currency and enough CAN$ cash
- Find your travel window and go for it
