You can’t talk to them about anything." 2. Second Wave Feminism denigrates Men. Camille defends Men and their contributions. The video below has the full response.
I think feminist culture has different schools of thought, much like anarchist theory. But with feminists it's either dress like a Muslim or Amish and not reveal anything or dress in nothing... There has to be a balance.
Just reading the comments men have been objectifying her for her breasts. Even I have a bit. Guys and girls alike are Meat Puppets. We look at each other as sexual object. Why? Cause it's human nature, that has always been a constant in history. Men are seen as an thrusting hunks with 9 inches in their pants while girls are porn stars ready to spread. This whole going bare thing is to make more money, nothing else.
Is she a hypocrite? No. Feminists promoted nudy for all sorts of things. But it is stupid, no one respects you for protesting nude. You're just oggled at for your boobs.
Like any political movement, feminism is not homogeneous. There are many different lines of thought within the movement and some feminists disagreeing with others about some topics absolutely doesn't take any credibility or seriousness from the cause.
That being said, Emma Watson's ideology is and has always been controversial. But I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about in this case because her breasts are not sexualized in this picture. It's a purely artistic photoshoot; you're not supposed to look at that and think about sex, you're supposed to appreciate the aesthetics of the entire picture. Unfortunately our bodies have been sexualized to a point where this distinction is long gone but that absolutely doesn't mean she's hypocritical or anything. It's just boobs, people need to calm the fuck down.
@Iraqveteran666 it was in fact artistic, but with different intentions. Art can be sensual and that was the case. Kim K's photo was the remake of a famous work by Jean-Paul Goude, which even in its original was supposed to be sexual.
Emma Watson is an actress, so I just have to assume that she is a self-important idiot that no one should prop up at the front of their "movement". That said, it shouldn't undermine her credentials as a feminist. Either feminism is the belief, and only this belief, that is people should have equal rights and opportunities regardless of their gender, in which case there shouldn't be a problem with a woman taking her shirt completely off. That woman should have the agency to decide for herself whether she is comfortable with that. Or feminism is a school of thought/social movement, and no person should ever say "I'm a feminist", but rather "I have feminist ideals". And if the latter is the case, then no two feminism-leaning individuals should ever believe EXACTLY the same thing, unless one is letting another think for them which is bad. In this instance you can't "take away" someone's feminist credentials, since they can interpret the dogmas however they want, opposite-of-ironically.
It's okay to expose their bodies. It's their right and that's what makes them popular. But it is hypocritical if you are representing something at a world level. You should be responsible.
She's a dick. She is the last woman on the Earth I'll give a fuck about.
@cipher42 I don't think it is. But before giving statements, you should think twice if you can follow them or not, especially when you are a public figure.
"Many people took to Twitter to express their thoughts, with some claiming no one would take her or feminism seriously after this."
Many people do not take it seriously to begin with.
This case about Watson seems to be blown out of proportion though. She is nowhere important nor influental enough to be interesting for that matter. But yes, she is a hypocrite. Not because of that though.
It seems like the women who are upset have sense, while the feminists who always quote "this is why we need feminism" are a bunch of air heads who were raised without any morals. I fucking hate those damn bitches.
Oh! And I could care less if she's a hypocrite or not. I dislike her regardless.
Emma Watson like every other celebrity doesn't represent causes and groups to help them but instead to raise themselves. Let's be real Emma Watson was the smart and pretty girl in Harry Potter and obviously the guys like her but the girls liked her because the wanted to be her, how far would she have got representing feminists if she looked like Rosey O'Donnell. Normally feminists just attack men. The best thing men can do is button out and let the fat ugly feminists attack the skinny pretty ones.
The feminists, like all SJW cliques, eventually devour their own. Like all good cultural Marxists, they are always on the lookout for someone who strays from whatever the orthodoxy of that day is and who is therefore not "pure" in fighting for the struggle.

The repulsive femi-nazis are complaining against Emma cause guys like her, but they don't like obese, wrinkled and bitter men-haters, who falsely call themselves feminists. True feminism is about women's rights, and every woman has a right to look beautiful and to dress whatever she likes. That's why Emma is a real feminist, unlike those femi-nazi beatches who are criticizing her.

Feminists often say they want to be treated just like men would be in the same situation. So they should consider the fact that men never shame other men for posing shirtless in men's magazines like GQ or Men's Health.
A disproportionate number of feminists seem to be lacking in the looks department and tend to react badly to seeing traditionally attractive women like Emma Watson trading on their looks in any way. I don't know if it's jealousy or what, but they'd rather see people like her covered up, while giving average women total freedom to go topless anywhere without shame. If Vanity Fair showed an old and fat woman topless, I don't think feminists would have any problem with it whatsoever.

And this is why feminism is still needed. There is nothing shameful, wrong or degrading about the female body. Ideally women would be allowed to do what they want with their bodies (as far as what to show and what not - men as well) and not get treated any differently, objectified or exploited, it's just a body & I don't think their is anything wrong with showing them off.

I'm not sure why we worry about what celebrities think, given they are rarely famous for being amazing thinkers. This isn't to suggest that she, or any other celebrity is stupid, or even not 'above average' in intelligence. But Emma Watson is famous as a feminist because she's an attractive and talented actress who happened to be in some very popular pop culture movies, and then said she was a feminist. That's it.
There are choice feminists who would endorse her view, and more strict feminists who'd argue her behavior is reinforcing a pattern of oppression that she's happening to benefit from. And there are hundreds of people on either side of that debate who could express the view well.
Feminism pisses me off. Is this in favor of feminism? Yes. This proves the hypocrisy and irony of the movement lol. Emma Watson is a feminist... and feminists are all about showing their bodies and against slut shaming. Sooo... let's just forget about this. Oh and us, motherly-non-feminist women are the cause of the wage gap. Take those higher positions in your jobs... if you don't have kids! Lol.

She also said girls should approach men and pay for dates. Then on Ellen she says she prefer dating American men because they aren't afraid to come up to her and ask her out, unlike English men who are shy. I love her in Harry Potter, but in real life she is the biggest hypocrite.

I don't see this as a contradiction. It's not like she's posing for playboy.
Only times I have issues with feminism is if a feminist expects Men to hold their gender roles while negating their own. Those types, not all, can fuck off. Or the ones who think they can do whatever they want without any consequences and ALWAYS say it's the man's fault. It could have nothing to do with feminism too.
Let's just say a woman cheats and hides behind feminism. Cheating is wrong regardless of gender.
Well if she critized Beyonce for how she exposes her body then that does seem a bit hypocritical.
Personally, I am sick of feminists trying to tell us how we are supposed to perceive their choices. Like it is your right to get paid to expose your body and pose for sexual pictures if thats what you want. There is nothing that prohibits it, but you can't then demand that everyone has to perceive your choice of expression the way you intended them to.
I really don't see the big deal when men was seen as pussies and bitches and weak for speaking about how stupid the feminist movement was in the first place. It takes world wide disapproval for people to wake up and see that it was a dumb movement from the start.

It's pretty sexist of all those girls to give poor Emma grief just for showing off her boobs a little. I mean, why is that a problem? Is it because she's attractive? If she were a hairy obese chick with bad skin, those same women would be praising her for her "bravery."
I might be wrong but I think when she talked about Beyonce.. she was referring to her songs and lyrics.. but still you cannot even see her bare boobies here.. and it has nothing to do with where she stands on feminism... feminism is about equality of rights for women and men.. and most western feminists or people in general have ruined the term by using it for stupid ideas and theirs own stupid propaganda

Camille Paglia (Feminist) has the best answers...

Well most nudes are artistic and tasteful. The photographer puts a lot of work.
