+1 yGocbachev brought down the Soviet Union, but it was Yeltsin who brought down Communism. Catch is, he forgot to replace it with something else. Biden wanted to eliminate fossil fuels; his plan is to replace them with... nothing, apparently. If you really want to cut greendouse gas emissions, you have two options: nuclear and failure. Hydroelectric's an environmentally disruptive nightmare; wind is decades of heavy research away from being more than a novelty; solar's still energy-negative, releases MORE greenhouse gases over the life of the panel than oil (CO2 is a relatviely minor greenhouse gas, all in all) and there's basically NO recycling of those components; geothermal's fine, but very limited in where it can be done.
I don't understand why the people who won't shut up about the importance of environmentalism in power generation keep ignoring the one viable solution. If the power for the batheries comes from burning oil, you might as well just have the cars do it.00 Reply

It could be very possible. A nuclear plant near me is in the process of being decommissioned account of not being competitive in the market with natural gas! That shut down started around a year ago when gas was cheap!
No telling what the comparison would be today. But it probably is too late to restart the nuclear power plant now.03 Reply- +1 y
I actually couldnt believe what you said was true, so i looked it up and it would seem that is indeed happening.
That is an astonishing and grotesquely irresponsible nation energy policy.
The costs involved in building or decommissioning nuclear power stations is the lions share of the total cost for the energy they provide, to close them down before the end of their life is insane.

I actually think the electric car thing is a scam; part of the globalist agenda.
Stock shares in companies that are scrambling to get mining rights to minerals like lithium, cobalt, graphite, vanadium, and manganese are going through the roof. It's like a new "oil boom". Mining operations destroy the land and the sea floor. And they pollute. It is NOT good for the environment or ecosystems (including animals).
Refining, transportation and production is also anti-environmental.
Power companies (which rely upon fossil fuels) and builders of nuclear power plants are drooling over the prospect of growth. So are those who will build infrastructure for charging stations and transmission lines.
Auto manufactures are also anticipating huge profits because electric car are more expensive. And electric cars can't simply been repaired and rebuilt. You won't see used car lots full of used electric cars. You won't see classic decades-old electric cars.
That means that, once an electric car is used up, you will have to buy a new one.
Electric cars limit people's mobility. No more long road trips. No more stopping for five minutes to refill your gas tank. No more mechanics to fix engine problems. Electric cars are also full of computers that record and track everything you do.
Will electricity be less expensive than gasoline? And what about rolling black outs?
The whole thing is about monopolizing all the Earth's resources - land, water, air, food, transportation, and human beings - under the dishonest claim of "protecting" the environment. And it fits with the UN Agenda 2030 effort to institute a New World Order/One World Government that has been rebranded as The Great Reset. It's about global totalitarian control over human lives.
You'll notice that the elites who meet in places like Davos to plan the future of commoners don't limit themselves to electric vehicles. The have muscle cars and limos. 1500 private jets arrived at the last Davos meeting. Those fuckers are laughing at us.
I think it was the book "The Globalization of Poverty and the New World Order" that talked about some of the things I mentioned. But there are other information resources.
Am I against electric transportation? No. Electric can be good for golf carts and driving short distances. How 'bout building mass transit infrastructure that replies upon electricity? Trolleys, buses, bullet trains?10 Reply
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yElectric cars are nothing new, they've been around since the combustion engine was invented.
Rolling blackouts are just scare mongering.
Electric cars are potentially progress in technology and ways of doing things. All the time we figure out how to make things more efficient so that they require less energy to work, are less harmful to the environment, last longer, require less maintenance etc. Part of the reason the us& British car industry went into the toilet in 60s, 70s, 80s& 90s was because both industries refused to change with the times while the British were building cars that were very maintenance heavy and the Americans were building giant gas guzzling boats on wheels the Japanese were building fuel efficient reliable well built cars. We've been making more progress with environmentalism than we give ourselves credit for, ie no more lead in fuel, lead which was creating huge posinious smog, every year factories get less harmful to the environment. Car engines are much more fuel efficient and much cleaner.
So yes we should still continue to progress, are Electric cars or hybrids the answer? Maybe, we certainly need better batteries for them.
Sure we should harness as much solar, wind, wave, geothermal, hydroelectric as we can that's just good sense as even though we will still need fossil fuels it will certainly make are fossil fuel use last longer if we need less as will continued progress of making our fossil fuel use cleaner and more efficient. This also should make energy cheaper.
At the end of the day whether you use an electric car or a diesel/petrol/hydrogen car that energy has to come from somewhere and right now it will come from fossil fuels powering either regardless of what it is.
Will electric cars be more fuel efficient to run energywise compared to combustion engine cars if both are getting their power from fossil fuels? I don't know.00 Reply- 384 opinions shared on Trending & News topic.
+1 yI'm sure there are ways to get around this even if it WAS a legit threat but, if they're so worried about this, why not give us the tech to run a car on water? You can use pretty much any kind of water so, it's free and, as the run-off from it is steam (water), you can just collect that and put it back into the tank and use it again! You might be able to drive clear across the country & back on just one tank of water and still have plenty left over when you get back! Or, they cold let us have mag-lev so we could all be driving around like The Jetsons and probably never have to worry about ANY kind of fuel ever again!!

@FunkyMonkee Do you remember year's ago when people were recycling their cooking oil and putting in their gas tanks to run their car?

No, I never heard of that. I suppose that, if it's combustible, it might work.

If everyone suddenly went out and bought an electric car the power grid would not be able to handle the extra power drain when everyone plugged them in to charge. There would definitely be brownouts. More fossil fuel power plants will need to be built and the wiring and construction will also have to be built. This is a more complicated process than just going to your Tesla dealership and buying a car. Then there are all the charging stations that will need to be built. I can't wait to see all the drug addicts stealing the power cords and selling them for the scrap copper.

+1 yelectric vehicles are not the answer.
for those with short memories, we tried this in the 70s and early 80s. it was all fine until other costs came up.
it may seem until you consider additional costs and issues associated with ownership and maintenance.
far too many fail to consider the shelf life of batteries and costs of replacements.
there are also costs and hazmat concerns regarding disposal of old ones.
one must also consider the additional strain on the electrical grid, as well as the inconvenience of running out of charge on a long trip, repair costs, etc.
it's another shade of gray.00 Reply
+1 yToo soon, there is not enough infrastructure for charging, the current batteries are bad for the environment, the energy usually isn't green so still quite a lot of co2 emissions, also the cars are literally the same big SUVs and the amount of cars is the same.
Its a start but still lots to do and to improve.00 ReplyThey have their place.
I've thought about, use the electric car for chasing around, and 1 for longer trips.
I don't think the infrastructure is in place to support too many cars at once in the city, in the country it would be ok because there less of them.00 Reply- 416 opinions shared on Trending & News topic.
+1 yI like them, but we need a better method of powering them than batteries.
30 Reply Our power grid can't handle them.
They cost to much at this point.
And the electricity used to charge them are produces mainly by oil and gas.20 ReplyExpensive as hell and if too many on the road, more blackouts will occur. Fully charging can take from 30 mins to 10 hours, depends on the battery size.
10 ReplyIts to early for us all to go electric. Germany hasn't even gotten it right yet. If we go all electric the only thing capable of supporting enough power is nuclear.

u +1 yThe push for electric cars is just part of the left's agenda to do everything they can to wrest control of our lives from us.
00 Reply When nonrenewable resources are used to manufacture and create the electricity to charge the car it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to consider them green.
00 Replyelectricity is generated by, Coal fired or other fossil fuels, very little is Hydro, Dams, solar... so Electric cars are NOT Green...
