What is your opinion of an Ohio police department's shooting of an accused shoplifter?

Ta'Kiya Young was shot and killed last week when she refused to exit her vehicle when directed by the officer. She then moved forward, hitting a different officer causing said officer to fire a single round.

Ms. Young was 21 years of age and had two children (6 years and 3 years of age) of unknown fathers. She had a third on the way.

She already has a list of criminal offenses.

It's unfortunate that anyone was killed. Her family will feel the loss and, I'm sure, the officer that was involved hates dealing with the killing as well.

I think we should all respect everyone involved.

I would hope there is no rush to judgement because of skin color.

She wasn't shot because she shoplifted, she was shot because she hit an officer with her vehicle which at that point was considered a deadly weapon. Was she going to try to run someone else over?
No one knows.
Had she complied with the officers she would not have been shot.
Once again, you play stupid games you win stupid prizes.
So, because of her actions her kids no longer have a mother, nor will the 3rd child be born.
Her prior conduct/offenses had no bearing that day at that moment in time.
It all came down to the choice (s) she made at that particular moment.

She had a gun pointed at her man. Her actions could have been reactive. I mean, how would you react with a loaded gun pointed at you and people screaming at you to get out of your car, badge or not?

I would comply with the officers as we all should, then you can pretty much avoid the gun (s) being pointed at you in the first place.

I don't necessarily diagree. Officer pointed a hot gun at her before she likely panicked and took off. Officers were technically correct and didn't violate protocol, but they weren't right. Situation wasn't handled well at all by all parties.

It's sad that she died and left young kids without a mother, but when she used her vehicle as a weapon to attack an officer, she gets what she deserves. As someone with a record of criminal offenses, she should know her actions have consequences.

If you order the food, you have to pay the bill. We have to let police punish people who break the rules because if there is no punishment, there is no compliance and with no compliance, everything gets destroyed and society itself would collapse and abuse itself. The reason humans rule the world and not lions or sheep is that human society is organized by rules and human society has more complicated rules than gorillas or whales etc…

We have no idea if it was racially motivated. Even if it was, it doesn't matter because beliefs and motives aren't illegal. Actions committing crimes are. This wasn't murder, though. She assaulted him with a deadly weapon, her vehicle.

I read a story on Reddit about a guy who spent years in prison and was shot for doing the same exact thing. AND, his drunk buddies in the military were being mouthy and egging him on. AND HE was assaulted by bouncers trying to take the keys from the ignition.

It was unfortunate circumstance handled poorly. I'm inclined to think she acted out of fear. She didn't need to die.

Once again, if she had complied, and was innocent, they would have searched the car, checked the cctv and she'd be on her way. Now two kids have lost their mum, another will never be born.

A vehicle is a deadly weapon. She drove at the officer putting his safety at risk. Look up Patrick McCarty, broke his back when a suspect attacked him with a car, and he was probably a lucky one
