Is Anyone Else Planning On Viewing The Total Solar Eclipse This Monday, April 8th?

I will be going on a road trip to witness the total solar eclipse, as the area I'm located in will only experience a partial eclipse (89.03% coverage). I'm not certain of my exact destination yet, but it will be in the center path of totality and where the weather is expected to cooperate. So I'll be driving anywhere from 5 to 30 hours.

I wound up seeing totality on the eclipse centerline in Maine, on U. S. 201, between the towns of Dennistown and Jackman. 45.66667°N, 70.27634°W. It was phenomenal!

I find it surreal that the American population is so alarmed by the prospect of this eclipse.

Granted the Flat Earth believers will be going out of their collective minds as physics once again demonstrates the planet is a spherical object, but for the rest of us it's just the moon passing between us and the sun as it orbits the planet.

Now I acknowledge the remote possiblity that the Antichrist might make an appearance during the eclipse, just as I recognise Christ may choose that moment to return. Of course a whole lot has to happen in the next 36 hours for the Revelation prophesies to be fulfilled by Monday. Including every nation on earth rising up in a military assault on the city of Jerusalem, and while most of the world is pissed by the Gaza crisis I don't think North Korea is ready to side with the USA and the Middle Eastern countries in a joint military assault yet.

I highly doubt I'll be able to see it. Most likely, as with nearly all celestial events, it'll be pissing rain that day!! It's BEEN pissing rain for most of the past 5 days!! The creeks and rivers are flooded to just about street level!! Last night, we actually got SNOW!! It's supposed to be pissing rain for most of the next 5 days!! IF it's possibly, I'll go out and watch it! If not, maybe I can find a site online to watch it here. As I'm not in Ohio, I'm not so sure I'm gonna get totality but, at least close to it.

I'm not even sure where that is or when it's gonna happen. From a map I saw a week ago, it LOOKS like it's gonna go diagonally across the middle of Ohio from SW to NE and will probably clip right over Erie. So, I'd say I'm about 3 to 4 hours away from that.

Since you're close, and if you've got the opportunity, you should try to be in the path of totality. The difference between 99% coverage and totality is literally the difference between day and night.

I have no way to get there but Greyhound bus and no place to stay once I get there. My ex-fiance's step-sister no longer lives in Ohio and I have no idea where MY 3 Scum is, anymore. Theyy used to live right next door to the Millcreek Mall (Erie). Last time I was at Bob Kellogg's house, it was practically out in the sticks, somewhere and that was at least 20 years ago! Even if he was in the same house now, I wouldn't be able to find it on my own.

If you can also take the bus back, I would ride into the path of totality, see the eclipse, grab a late lunch or early dinner, and then go back. If you're that close, you shouldn't have to worry about staying anywhere overnight.

Yeah, that's possible but, I'm not sure I could afford it anymore. It looks like the places for totality from here are 4 hours west or 3 hours north. At least by car. I'm not so sure about bus. Round trip might be 12 hours and I'd have to start about 8 a. m..

According to what I just saw, it IS gonna be raining around the time of the eclipse! It starts about 2 hours before and ends about 2 hours after!

We made a massive mistake, our library was giving out free shade glasses and my dad forgot to claim them. They ran out March 26th. I will leave my house and stare at the garden but not the sun during the eclipse so I can get a sense of it by proxy.

we saw one about 4-5 years ago out in Ohio… we had our glasses.. was a good experience.

TOTAL Solar eclipse is RARE so exciting! to see, but 3:25 still at job, so i hope someone videos, so i can see the replay of the moon blocking.

It was, and it was really great there. Not a single cloud, almost total darkness for a little more than 1 or 2 minutes. The temperature dropped 5°C (9°F) during the apogee. People were cheering. It was a great and rare event to witness! What about you?

I was on the centerline of the total eclipse along U. S. 201 between Dennistown and Jackman in Maine, so I had just under 3½ minutes of totality. Completely clear sky. Saw Venus and Jupiter, and the panoramic 360° yellow horizon. It was like looking into a black hole with white and yellow plasma all around. It was a spectacular show!

That's cool that you saw it in 2017. You're probably the same distance from totality as I am (about 5½ hours). It's nice that you're going to check it out again where you're located, but unfortunately the partial eclipse experience isn't nearly the same thing.

Nice! I forgot that you moved a while back! That's awesome! I might wind up being not be very far from you! Here's a few things to notice and look for during the few minutes of totality:

1.) The temperature will drop. A lot. Maybe as much as 25°F.

2.) Birds will stop chirping and dogs will start barking. If it was during the summer (like the 2017 eclipse), crickets would start making noise.

3.) The entire horizon, 360° around, will be a fire orange-red color. The rest of the sky will be a dusk midnight blue. Stars and planets will be visible.

4.) Light and shadows immediately before and immediately after totality might have a wavy, watery, shimmering chrystal quality to them.

5.) Just as totality is about to start, and when it comes to an end, you'll see "Bailey's Beads" (the very last/very first sunlight visible between the mountains and valleys of the moon) and the "engagement ring" (the very last/very first ray of sunlight past the moon).

6.) As an added bonus during this particular eclipse, a comet might be visible in the western sky.

It depends on where you're located. Upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine are supposed to be pretty clear.

I forgot the most important thing: During actual totality, you take the eclipse glasses off.

Yes. Leading up to and after totality. You won't be able to see anything during totality if you leave them on. It's safe during the few minutes of totality because the sun is completely blocked by the moon.

You're actually not far from the truth. Much of the path of totality is expected to be cloudy, unfortunately. That's why I'm still not 100% certain of where I'm going exactly.
