Did you see the Astronauts splash down?

Yes, I did. And once again, Elon Musk has saved the asses of people that the United States government could not.
Yes, it was pretty impressive.

I knew they had left the ISS but didn't realize the landing would occur so quickly thereafter.
@OlderAndWiser that’s how long it takes to get to the other side of the earth.
Yes. I watched it on NASA live stream. It was cool.
I did not know about this nor news yet STILL it invaded my dream, this morning, 19th, about bringing 1 astronaut down! Maybe more.
Yes I did. Exactly on time and exactly where Dragon was planned to splashdown.
Yup I saw it. It's about time they are home
Missed it I am afraid. Rich people doing stuff nearly no one will be privileged to do ever isn't that interesting.
The Swedes used to be a people that would set off and discover new worlds. They were explorer and well as conquerors. We have space to explore and worlds to conquer. There has to be some investment but the payoff is huge. Humans explore. It is how we found what is now your hometown.
I heard about it, but I certainly wouldn’t be able to see it since I live in New York
@Likes2drive It was live streamed online and every network covered it on TV.
@AviatorTom I was probably working at the time and I drive all day
Glsd the boys are back on Terra Firma !!! ("Butch and Sonny?" Why not Bubba?
Did Elon Musk bring them back on Space X?
In November and December of 2026 is the next window to Mars which occurs every 26 months. Musk has already announced that he will send an unmanned Starship with equipment and Tesla robots to mars on that flight. Then he wants to launch people in the following window which would be January and February of 2029 if I did my math right. Now he did say he would send a Falcon 9 to Mars back in 2017/2018 timeframe so his desires haven’t always panned out but he sure is getting ready this time.
With non-Starship rockets it is estimated to be 6-9 months, I often heard 8 months. Musk is looking to use his new engines and perhaps even a refueling to get it to 3 to 4 months. The quickest is estimated at 3 months but who knows. If he wants mid-flight refueling, I haven’t seen any details on that such as launching a fuel tank rocket before nov of 2026. I think he doesn’t need to set a mark for 3-4 months, just get there within 6 months for the first one and we will learn from there. But if he does that, then the first human flight will be longer or more experimental. 6 months for 100 humans in space would be tough. A lot of hard decisions will be made soon. Perhaps he should launch a fast track rocket for an 3 month landing and then another rocket for 4-6 months assuming his engines shorten the trip.
I have heard if you miss the window and launch at another time, you could actually wait for the next window and beat the rocket that left outside of the window. Funny how orbits work like that.
Another amazing journey
