On Friday 23 October 2026, the local Fire Brigade received an alarm that Adolf Hitler's Alpine mountain retreat, the Kehlsteinhaus, also known as the Eagle's Nest, was on fire.
Police in the southern German state of Bavaria later detained a 33-year-old German man, riding a motorcycle with no license plate away from the fire, suspected of arson. He is being held at a psychiatric institution.
Before the fire, this was one of Germany's largest tourist attractions, with thousands of visitors each year.
Damage from the fire is extreme, estimated to be in the millions of Euros. It is not know if the site will be rebuilt.

I hadn't heard , but I think the tourist attraction is needed , it's important history , I think that's horrendous that it was deliberate , it's important
.
I had not heard the news. I am not sad about this site being destroyed.
They will rebuild it. It's a tourist attraction and it's made mostly of stone that didn't burn.
I just wait for protests of Antifa under rule of AFD in Germany.
The problem with destroying things like this is in a few years time people will claim the nazis didn't exist.
Well, if Trump drops the bomb like the rumors suggest, that will be the least of your concerns.
yep, I wouldn't rebuild it, but they probably do. If do, Id make it a museum about the history.
So being a Nazi gets you into the Reichstag, while being against Nazis gets you into a mental institution?
No I did not hear about it that's kind of sad
It is sick that so many people paid to see this, Eagles nest it's not like Graceland
No, I didn’t hear anything about it until now. @AviatorTom
Plant some more trees back it’ll be fine and you can vacation there
I didn't know 🤷♂️
Historical sites are important, even for the darker moments.
I'm really glad to see anything Hitler built being burned to the ground.
I won't shed a single tear for it.
I've seen it in the news yes.
Let it burn
