There comes a time in every persons life that you are forced to take a look at the friends you have and be happy for what you have, and for what you once had.

I sit here this thanksgiving looking back on a few friendships that I have had over the years of my life, and realize that there has been only one person that have stood by me as a friend since the days of grade school. We both have helped one another through thick and thin. We have seen each other at our strongest and at our weakest. And I thank him for being the friend that he has been for many years and I can say that we both will still be friends on our death beds.

You then have the people that come into your life for just a short time, then pack up and just Leave. You thought that you were on the path to another one of the types of friendships that I just finished describing. You get to the point in the friendship that you start sharing the personal things that only your closer friends know about you. This person may even know things about you that you hardly even know about yourself. Since you are still somewhat in those early stages of the relationship, you still have some figuring out to do about the other person. You know the other person pretty well, yet they hardly know you.

They don't know how to pick up on the signs that you put out that there is something bothers you. They continue to act in a way that is hurting you because they don't pick up that you are hurt and that they are the reason that you are hurt. Meanwhile you are stuck here hoping that they will figure out that you are hurting, and getting more and more hurt. Getting yourself angry with them because they are not there when you feel you need them the most. Suddenly you find out through a third party that they want nothing to do with you whatsoever. They did not even have the courage to tell you face to face that they want to end things. This is a person that over the last year to a year and a half have thought to be a person that was a close friend. Someone that you confided in with some of your secrets and now they leave you in the dark, not wanting anything to do with you. How do you mend a heart that has been hurting because a friend has left you like this?

DeanW It's good to count your blessings for the good friends you do have, the ones who will walk down those dark alleys with you. It's a shame that the people who will screw you over look a lot like the ones who wouldn't. - More than a year ago
roten27 It's weird like that and one of those things I will most likely never understand in life - More than a year ago
wonderer I am going though something like this right now, with an old friend and it hurts like crazy. :( - More than a year ago
dasouthernicon It's not ez, I been thru that a few times, but you must persevere and put it in God's hands... You must not let the memory of that person's betrayal hold any power over you and your feelings.... - 10 months ago
