We text a lot but he would never talk to me in person?

I met a friend in school last year and our friendship started when he wrote his number on my yearbook and asked me to call him up I wanted to hang out during summer vacation. I wasn't aware because it seemed like he write every new friend no matter guys or girls his number. We agreed to hang out together and there were only the two of us but due to some reasons we didn't hang out together at the end. All out conversation from last year till this year was based on text messages,he never called me or even talk to me a lot in school. We started becoming close friends again this year and still we haven't hang out or even talk on the phone after two summers. Recently,I felt really weird about the fact that he wouldn't talk to me at school and at times he even ignore me when I was standing right in front of him and it was always me who started texting him first.at times,we even text till 2am in the morning talking abt our background,liek I felt like we talked abt a lot of stuff through texting but since he isn't talking to me at school at all,I am starting to feel really bad, so I asked him why is he acting this way is it because of the fact that he didn't wanna to talk to me or something? he said no,its just because he gotta stay with his group of friends,I got even more confuse,he talk to other girls in school,some aren't from his group of friends,I am the only person whom he wouldn't talk to,and I am starting to like him because we do flirt sometimes through text messages and he's saying a lot of things that a normal friend wouldn't say to me,it is just really weird how he wouldn't talk to me in person. I have also recently realized that he said he've got a long-distance girlfriend whom he only sees once a year,I am not really sure about what to do and why is he acting like this. I was just wondering whether guys ignore people they like in person?and could anyone give me any opinion after reading my above description on why he is acting like this?
