you don't have to spend loads to impress a girl, they love to be spoiled but that doesn't always mean spending loads of money on them .. take them out for a picnic with the money you would use to buy you dinner.. take her somewhere that can be special for you 2 and isn't crowded by other people.. have a picnic and take a radio so you can dance a bit.

You can still have a good time without necessarily spending a lot of cash. Instead of going on the traditional dinner date try taking her out later for ice cream and then for a walk back to your place to hang out with some popcorn and a movie. If she likes to have a few drinks make your own mixed drinks. She will appreciate some quality time with just you if she is into you. Also you could try making dinner from a cookbook if you don't really know how to make something really good. If you cook her dinner as apposed to taking her to dinner it will be more personable and you will get good props out of that one. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive and fancy either. A salad always makes a dinner look nice with some dinner rolls and then just make some grilled chicken with rice or something. Just come up with something that isn't costly but tastes good. Maybe you could even involve her in the cooking process it is romantic to do that.

Just buy some flowers, doesn't need to be expensive ones, and then your golden even if you take her to wendys. Flowers let her know you care and your not stingy no matter how cheap the food is.

If your job doesn't have good pay, maybe look for a new one. In the mean time, scrape a bit of money from your paycheck every time you get one. Soon you'll have some money for a nice date. Good luck!

You can have just as much fun going out as staying in. Do something like have her over for a movie, play a board game, cook her dinner, go to a party, a friends place, bbq. Go out to matinees, mini-golf (is cheap), go dancing, see a live band, pool, or even darts.
Hell when I was in college I was broke all the time and still managed to show the girls a fun night. Colleges girls want to have fun either way you do it. Go out or stay in. Besides staying in has easier access to the bedroom :)
