losing 20lbs in a month is pretty standard if you're on a regular healthy diet and exercise program. as for the colon cleaners, these are only a 2 second fix because all you are doing is excreting all of the waste from your body. you aren't actually losing weight or fat or anything.

MrNameless Losing 20 pounds in one month is not very healthy. Especially for women. It's best to lose 1-2 pounds every week on average.

If the Question Asker is losing that much in one month.. She's losing muscle mass as well.

Answerer It depends on how big the person is. if you're serious about having a very healthy diet and stick to an exercise program then you could definitely lose this much in a month. I'm doing a bachelor of nutrition and dietetics at uni and I've been on a strict but healthy diet and exercise program and lost about 15lbs in a month. you shouldn't really count the 1st wk or so either because that's just mostly excess fluid that is lost and usually a greater number of lbs lost than the following wks. - A month ago

things that promise miracles (fat burners, acai, etc etc etc are a waste of time and most importantly MONEY) just eat well balanced meals, 6x/day, exercise 30-60 min/day, LOTS of water 2-3litres, and bran. rest on sat and sunday, cheat on the 'diet' a little bit, and aimk for 2-3lbs lsot per week. anymore and you wilkl be losing muscle not fat and will re gain everything you lost, trust me

the acai berry is antioxident. antioxidants aren't really used for losing weight, but rather maintaining a healthy life

if you want to lose weight, the best way is to do it slowly, because if you do it FAST all you lose is water and muscle mass and not as much fat as you think you are losing

2-3 pounds a week is a healthy weight to lose, no more. I'd calm down on the whole weight loss, otherwise you will end up with stretch marks.

Question Asker Ha! I have 2 kids, I have the stretch marks! lol - 4 months ago
Answerer Lol :) However, losing more than that has other side effects, some mentally. If you lose 8 lbs one week then 3lbs the next you may (not saying you WILL) see that as a negative effect. Any weight loss in a week is good if you are trying. But 2-3lbs is a healthy weight to lose. This applies to everybody. It's sound advice I myself followed when I was going through a weight loss program. - 4 months ago
MrSchneider Actually mate, 2-3 lbs is too much
2 is borderline because it puts the body in a huge caloric defecit
it takes about 500 calories a day to be burned to lose a pound a week
that makes 1000 a day at 2 lbs
and 1500 at 3 lbs
youd have to be lucky to have any energy at all
also, if you lose that much a week you are probably just losing water - 4 months ago
Question Asker Ehhh I read all diff kinds of diet solutions and news, you're both right. they come out with "new info" on diet and weight loss all the time - 4 months ago
Answerer MrSchneider, thanks for that. I guess it was just 2-3 for my diet, as I was eating a lot of calories. The diet I was on was one to burn fat AND build muscle. Like I said, I seeked advice myself on exercise and nutrition so feel free to correct me on anything. - 4 months ago

I wouldn't try to depend on drugs too much, since you cannot take them indefinitely. Just keep up the good work and you'll deserve the weight loss you get, and it will get permanent.

In my humble opinion that would be a waste of money. Instead invest your money in different ways. I will arrogantly say you are healthy in the aspect that you are free from any diseases or serious infections, don't need to go to the extent of cleaning your colon out. Eat some fiber, oatmeal, flaxseed (has omega-3 fatty acids just like TUNA, can't go wrong with tuna), that'll keep you visiting the restroom a bit longer. Cherries also have a mild laxative. Eat your dose of antioxidants, instead of going fancy with acai berries you can use blueberries (super high amt of antioxs), strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, pomegranite/cranberry juice. Instead of drinking more water try "eating" it. Canteloupe, watermelon, apples, kiwis, oranges etc are good. Eggs also help you reduce your waist (they keep you full longer and are better source of energy than carbs) along with yogurt and their pro biotics which yogurt helps restore the healthy bacteria in your digestive tracts. Tofu is good, mushrooms, kale (which is rich in isothiocyanates which prevents tumor growth and nitrogen), and my personal favorite garlic which is a organosulfate and it cleans you out BIG TIME from chemicals, smoke, even metabolites from alcohol. You are already working out and you lost 20 lbs and 1 1/2 dress size although I don't know what dress size you were before but keep it up, seems like you are doing fine all you need is patience, don't over do it. Good luck.

I may be odd in this, but, I've always felt if our colons were meant to be cleansed, we'd all come equipped with such a device. This may be sour grapes on my part, as, the last time I endeavored to cleanse my colon, I misread the directions, and am now left to survive with only the aid of a semi-colon. All the best to you at any rate.

People always say "eat healthy" but I know it's not that easy. When I wanted to lose weight I read this magazine that changed my life. Unfortunately I can't remember what magazine it was but I know what it said. This is sort of what it said in the article:

You know that huge bowl of cereal you have in the morning? Or that three scoop ice cream cone you get everyday? You may think it's okay, but you will be just as full with a smaller bowl or a two scoop cone. See, your body is full, but you can't realize it when you're eating. Start with smaller portions and to help, buy smaller bowls so you CAN'T put that much cereal in it. And when you eat dinner, wait 20 minutes before eating dessert. It takes about 20 minutes for your body to register as "full", so you may not even feel up to eating dessert! And eat meals slower so the body can digest and break down food while you eat. Gaining weight can be caused by lack of the body breaking down food.

I hope this helps =D Good luck.
PS- take the stairs instead of the elevator and use your bike instead of the car.

well I do cleansing kits (4 times a year) I take my fiber (konjac root which is Japanese product), I drink my green tea, I tried a few diet pills but they didnt' work for me, I do protein shakes in the morning, I jog really early in the morning and if I don't work that day, go back to sleep. yep. just eating healthy works, and drinking a lot of water

colon cleansers only clean out what's in your bowels at the time when you take them. once you stop taking them, it'll go back to the way it was. it's best to just regulate your digestive system with fiber and by drinking enough water.

Acai berries are amazing. I have never had a colonic, but that wouldn't take off fat, only weight that you don't see. Also- be careful...getting TOO obsessed with weight can lead to big problems.

you might weigh less once you sh*t, but you aren't losing FAT. that's what you should be worried about - sculpting your body. a number on the scale is just a number. the way you feel in your own skin and how well you're carrying a certain size should be your main focus. you're obsessed with the scale, not your health. colon cleansing shouldn't have even crossed your mind. working out and eating right is the best way to lose weight. I've lost thirty pounds myself and I'm still working on it, but I'm doing it at a slow, steady pace that's good for my body. you seem like you're rushing for something. there's no time limit on when you can lose weight. don't get me wrong - congratulations on the weight loss, but don't overwork youself. you're suppose to take breaks inbetween. your body has to rest and recover.

idk if that helped :/

Standingpretty Hey, congrats on your guys wieght loss! but, what I was wondering, what have you been doing to work out? I have been trying to lose wieght my self and it would help to have a guide to go by. I usually am very good sticking to exercising programs once I find one that works with me and it seems like you have the right ideas.thanks so much for reading this and thank you even more if you respond. It's always good to share knowledge. :) - 3 months ago
Answerer What I've done is used different Youtube videos for at home exercises that don't require much equipment (squats, leg raises, push ups, etc). I'm always a fan of walking/jogging. I'll walk two blocks and job/run a block or two, then walk, etc. I use workout dvds if I have to or I sometimes just play hyper music and dance my ass off, haha. my niece works out with me (she's 13) and lost 12 pounds in two months :) we're working on weight together, which offers bonding/support. - 3 months ago
Answerer When I can get on my college campus, I have access to the gym. I do an hour on the eliptical machine and then I do some weight machines like the abductor/adductor, tricep machine, etc. or I'll get a pair of five to seven pound weights and do some squats with arm curls and whatnot. it's all fairly simple and effective. and remember to ALWAYS STRETCH. you'll FEEL the difference a day or two later, haha. message me if you're confused. maybe I'll give you some links? whatever you want to do :) - 3 months ago
Standingpretty Thanks! ^^yeah, links would be helpful. Haha there's a lot of things listed and I woulden't know where to start! - 2 months ago

colon cleaners do work, but yo need to keep on a health food program you can't just used the colon cleaner and eat normally because that won't really work and you'll gain the pounds back in days. So yeah I've tried the colon cleaner, not to loose weight but I was on a detox program that had colon cleaners 2 times daily, and they make you loose weight for sure but not if you eat like youd normally do like whener you want and such, you still need to be on a diet plan. Gl, Maggie.

I don't know about the acai berry colon cleanse, but I did try an herbal colon cleanser once and it worked, violently so. I took the capsules about 6pm and was woken up twice in the middle of the night with explosive diarrhea. I had to run to the bathroom and barely made it in time. It gets rid of the crap in your system, but as a weight loss method I don't think they are safe. They are same as using Ex-Lax or some other method of weight loss which can be very dangerous as it dehydrates you and throws off your electrolyte balance, can can leave you malnourished if frequently repeated over time.

Padon my noticing, but you are describing anorexic behavior. Your obsession sounds extremely unhealthy and you are resorting to very dangerous weight loss methods. I would recommend getting some professional help if you can't get over this obsession soon. This is the kind of think that can ruin your physical and mental health for the rest of your life.

Question Asker I battled annorexia during my teen years. I was obsessed with excersizing before I had kids so this isn't too unusual behavior. No I am not starving myself or perging for that matter. Simply took out all the sugar junk food and fast food and working out 5 times a week. Id rather be obsessed over working out than obsessed over an ex lover, drugs, or food. lol I think this is a healthy obsession - 4 months ago
Answerer "...but no I'm OBSESSED with working out and losing weight." -- Anything taken to extreme is unhealthy. Your history of anorexia and the current stresses in your life should be warning flags. Be careful with what you are doing and how you do it. You are walking a very dangerous line if you haven't already crossed it. - 4 months ago

I've actually asked a few (four) G.I. doctors about colon cleanses, and they have all said that they are not a good idea. According to them, they really don't work, they're not necessary, and they can possibly damage your intestinal tract. So, I would say it's a good idea to stay away from them.

Call me old fashioned but I don't believe in the "miracle diets" or pills. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to keep working out and keep eating healthy. People tend to diet, lose weight and then gain it back. A pound a week is good and gradual.
