Boyfriends parents have accent, how do I adjust to this, with my boyfriend's family?

Okay_ so we all know that there are interracial relationships now-a-days... I have one simple issue... My boyfriend is Jamaican and I'm White & African American. He speaks perfectly fine like his English is good, but his parents have a heavy accent. I have only spoke to his mom when she answered the phone when I was trying to reach him, but like I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to really understand his parents when I meet them. So like how do I adjust to this? Because I don't want to be embarrassed and say huh? Or ask him what his parents said when they are sitting right there speaking English. Lol so how do I adjust to this? This is just one of my issues I have with his background and all... He's perfect, just worried about not understanding his parents, that's embarrassing lol

There's a simple answer to this, you can either do one of two things.

Spend a healthy time around his mum, so you can experience the way she talks for longer periods, eventually you will pick it up, trust me on this if you only spend a few minutes with her, then it is going to be difficult but if you take it on as like trying to communicate with someone who's got a different accent or language even it should eventually become easy.

OR you could get your boyfriend to give you a helping hand by getting him to translate...but in secret..which would be a bit harder to do.

Easy :) If you are going to meet her, talk slowly so she can understand you and don't talk that much. Smile and be nice but speaking too much will make it harder for her to cope with you and that's gonna annoy her. If you didn't understand smth, you can huh? but not every single word. Like huh? when she's expecting a reply from you or smth.
