Do girls care about popularity (in college and after)?

For the longest time I've had the belief that I'll get a girlfriend only when I have a ton of friends and a booming social life (I even feel like one of the only ways I'll meet a girl is through a group of close friends). Is this true? Do I need a lot of popularity/high status for a decent girl to like me? I have a few friends, but it's not like I'm the type of person that talks to friends every 10 minutes throughout the day. Is this kind of extroverted behavior and a top rank socially necessary to earn and maintain a relationship?

Honestly, it depends on the type of girl. Just like there are types of guys there are different types of girls. Some girls do not care. If they like you and I mean truly like you, you as a person should be the only thing that matters. The amount of Friends and a pretty face do not make for a relationship. It is the stuff in between. If your people friendly, that's a good thing. It shows you are social. If you have a close group of friends, it shows you are loyal. It is hard to find a large amount of good friends, so most stick to small groups. You could meet a girl within your circle of friends or even out of it. It just depends on you and the girl.

However, it's important to me that a partner has his own group of friends and social life. I like being independent, even when in a relationship, and it's important we do things apart. I do also find it very attractive when a guy is friendly and outgoing.

I don't care at all about status or anything like that though.

It totally depends on a girl. So no, it does not necessarily matter, but it tells a lot about a person. If he's more introverted or extroverted. Each attracts a different type of girls. However, being yourself is the key, no matter how cheesy it sounds.:) And who would you call a "decent girl"? Just don't be a dick in general, is my advice.

High status is always very helpful, however, what gives males status in high school, in university, and when working can change quite a bit.

Similarly having a good ability to interact with people is always useful. That's not the same as popularity though.

Girls always care about how good their boyfriend can make them look in front of others. Popularity is not important if you are a people person

You don't have to be popular to have a girl. But you have to be willing to put your self out there to get a girl (which means you are ready to make an idiot out of your self and not feel ashamed of it) :)
