Dinner and movie is the usual. If you don't want to do the usual you can do something fun like bowling or lazer tag or something like that. A movie for a first date is kind of uncomfortable because you guys aren't talking but dinner is good so you guys can talk. If you know each other well then dinner and a movie is good.

other options are ice skating, the zoo, art gallery, walk around downtown, etc.
Hey, if you think it's a good idea, go for it. And you could look at it as classic, not cliche.
Cant really chat in a movie unless you get a dvd at home...
