I was going to pretend not to notice your question.
It's failed way of trying to make the person in question a bit jealous and attention thirsty.
If I don't really want to talk, or if I would be nervous to talk, then it's just easier to avoid.
I think guys do this, but it's a mean thing to do. They want to gauge your reaction.
