My boyfriend cried in front of me, what does it mean?

Anonymous
We've only been together for less than a month. He's super outgoing, fun, and friendly. We're actually complete opposites. He's very vocal and open, while I'm very shy and closed off. The other day we were lying in his bed and he got a letter concerning a family member who had died a couple months prior. He was very close to this person, and the letter just really got to him. He started crying and I just kissed his cheek and laid there with him while he told me all these things about this person, all their memories.

I've never seen a man cry before. I've had many close male friends who I've never seen cry. Even my friend whose father passed away unexpectedly when he was only 16. I've never once seen my father cry or anything close to it. So it threw me off. I can't tell if it's because he really trusts me, or because he's just an open book, or someone who is really emotional.

Guys, have you ever cried in front of your girlfriends? (why if you don't mind sharing). Is it normal this early on in a relationship?

Oh afterwards he said "I'm not used to crying".

For all you unintelligent commentators, it is very easy to hold back or hide the fact that you're crying. If you read the question, you would now that I grew up in a world where the men in my life never let anyone see them cry. I'm asking behind the significance behind him allowing me to see him so vulnerable, not the fact that he actually cried. For all of you who left sensible and helpful answers, thank you for understanding my question.
