I can't wear tampons because they hurt?

I'm a teenager and a virgin, I've always used pads and I wanted to try tampons. I can't wear them because they hurt me and feel uncomfortable. I want to wear them because they may provide better protection and I can go to my swimming class... Help?

I agree with Knightofthepage. Also get them with a good applicator because it's easier to insert them then; I get Tampax ones with a plastic applicator and it clicks when you've inserted it far enough (word to the wise: beware getting your labia caught in the applicator! Lol I've done that once or twice and it hurts! But that's not to put you off; it was only when I was in a hurry + trying to change tampons really quickly it's not a common hazard)

Ooh also I just thought of this; maybe try putting one in right after you get out of the shower because it tends to be easier if it's warm down there

Aw don't worry I'm 14 and obviously a virgin and they hurt me too! I always have to wear the pads aswell :)

Make sure you are inserting them correctly and try using a smaller size so you can get used to them.
