Well, there is a difference between getting hooked on something and needed to take medicine for a certain medical condition. It may very well be you need to be on some kind of medicine even temporarily, there is nothing wrong with that or you, just keep that in mind please.
As for your question, what works best as a stress buster for me is Hot Coco and Apple Cider. As far as Hot Coco you need to make it yourself as those packets are mostly pure sugar and milk. Boil some water and use a heaping tablespoon of pure coco (for an 11 oz mug). After, sweeten with a little milk and honey. Always melts the stress away for me.
As for the Cider, it is also a great cure for insomnia, don't know why it works, it just does, it can also make you kinda tired, so not a very good mid afternoon drink.

L-Tyrosine. It's a essential amino acid that your body produces but gets depleted when you are stressed. It immediately gives you an energy boost with a happy buzz.
Careful with some stupid suggestions below. Both zoloft and xanax are extremely addictive. In fact zoloft has been implicated in a few suicides here in Oz
In my opinion the only way to help with anxiety is actually conquering it for years I've had social anxiety problems I mean I was so scared to go anywhere by myself in case anything happened I'd always have negative thoughts in my head like oh this can happen or that can happen but about 3 weeks ago I had no choice but to go out by myself as I had to go on work experience so I had to take the bus as my parents had to be elsewhere at that time but that for me was huge accomplish and has helped me a lot with my anxiety of going out by myself I mean I'm still not 100% but I'm getting there and I mean my anxiety is so bad my 10 year old brother told me he was proud of me for going out by myself as for the stress I'm still figuring that out
What about an Essentail Oil Inhaler? I found quite a few on Etsy; this one's a little expensive, bit I thought it was one of the nicest... All of the others are like 10 bucks if you want something cheaper though:

Try seeing a psychologist. They can't prescribe medication because they haven't gone to medical school. Also they can help get to the root of the anxiety and help you find ways to cope that help you specifically instead of just generalizations that most people try because they're in vogue.
You should go and see a psychiatrist.
But if you must, you should try the Prozac (Fluoxetine) anti-depressant, it helps with help with depression, stress and anxiety. Prozac is also non-addictive and you can usually feel it's effects within 2-5 days.
You can only usually get this through a doctor/psychiatrist, and only use medication as a last resort.l-theanine can be used to help with stress and anxiety, though there isn't clear evidence in support of this. you can certainly try it, it has worked for others and isn't that expensive. you can purchase it from the vitamin shoppe or GNC.
Here is an article with some background information about it: www.lef.org/.../Page-01I don't think anxiety medicine is really addictive. I mean, you have to go on it at a paced speed, and the same with going off of it. It takes time to work but it can help. A psychiatrist could tell you what medicine is right for you. And medicines have different effects on different people. Talk to a psychiatrist.
