Getting my body back in shape, what's a good way to work out and lose weight?

The backstory to this is rather long so I don't want to go over everything, after moving away from my family for a job I got fired from said job, then spent the better part of the past year doing odd-jobs and living practically fairly poorly, I gained a few pounds, lost a few good friends, few really bad relationships with a lot of class girls, alchoholism, my life was on one big downturn.

So recently after talking to a few people I wanted to get my life back in shape, i wanted to get myself back on my feet, be the guy I want to be, a guy that can actually hold up a relationshp and one day, perhaps a good hardworking father. At the moment I can't go to a gym as there's not really one in my city, nor do I really have enough to go out there and buy a bunch of exersising machines, but I've been doing press ups and pull ups.
