What are these "toxins" in my body that I need to be concerned about?

What are these
When I hear someone giving a presentation on a nutritional product, I frequently hear them talk about "toxins" (which certainly sounds bad-assed extra scary bad) that I need to flush from my body. I have a few questions about these villainous toxins.

1. No one has ever specifically identified what these toxins are. If I have excess copper or zinc levels in my body, the doctor tells me exactly what I have in excess. But nobody identifies the toxins. That makes me wonder if they know ANYTHING about "toxins." How do you know that they exist. Is it because the 18 year-old kid at the health food store told you all about them?

2. The people who talk about toxins are usually selling a product that will remove the toxins from my body, and - surprise - their product does a better job than anyone else's product. Unfortunately, these products are not cheap.

3. Where do these toxins come from? Instead of flushing toxins out of my body, wouldn't it be better to avoid getting the toxins in there in the first place? Nobody talks about how to avoid the toxins.

4. Has anyone ever died because they didn't flush their toxins? If I don't respond to your opinions, you can assume that the toxins finally caught up with me!

5. If I "flush" my toxins, I assume that they are going down the toilet. That means that these things could end up back in the ocean at some point. Maybe that's why some of the fish species aren't doing so well. Where are the green police?

Seriously, every time I hear somebody talk about toxins, I relegate them to the caregory of snake oil salesmen. Does anyone have any real (valid, verifiable, repeatable, non-anecdotal) evidence to support this theory of toxins and the benefit of flushing toxins?
