Has therapy worked for any of you?

Nearly every important male figure in my life has, within the last year and a half, either just left or done something major to make me not trust them. I trust people on the surface but not about anything important and it is seriously starting to get in the way of my having any kind of relationship with men, I mean I have male friends but I am never willing to go out with any, especially not somewhere that is private. Anyway, my doctor had offered to give me a referral to mental health to see a therapist and I was thinking about taking her up on it but I was wondering if any of you have gone through the same thing and if it helped at all. I saw a social worker for stress management for a while but quit because it wasn't helping at all.

So what are your thoughts on the subject?
