I have tried belly dancing, and push ups non of them really work besides making me sweat a lot!
what else should I do?
I found out an incredible fast way: fasting.
You first get ready for it, by eating only once a day, say after 6pm, just a normal meal, and do that for 4/5 days to get your body accustmed. Then stay 72 hours non stop without eating. I did it as a kind of self discovery thing, not to lose fat (I'm slim anyway). I actually included even no water. I discovered that:
1. in modern society, eating is often a habit rather than a need. A bit like cigarettes. What I had to struggle with in those 72 hours was more of a psycological thing. I tell you though, the second night was difficult.
2. actually I risked a bit with the water thing (I found out afterwards). In average, you can stay 3 days without water before permanently damaging vital organs, about 3 weeks without eating beofre dying of starvation
3. I am already a slim person, but I had some belly and some body fat, I lost everything and to rebuild the belly it took me over a year, but I guess by changing my eating patterns it might not have returned at all (i.e. instead of three large meals, switching to 5 smaller ones, i.e. eating a bit more aoften but in lesser quantities; plus, chwing for longer, so that I ingest less volume but use more efficiently what I eat; drinking more water which is fundamental for digesting food - I din't not that, and regardless, I had unknowingly spent all my life in a state of semi dehydration; eating lots of vegetables and fruits). I have not regained the body fat.
Now I'm thinking of doing it again ( I did it 2 years ago), but this time I'm planning afterward to be more regular with exercising and really simply sticking more to the above eating habits, eating as much as my belly asks for, not as much as my throat wishes:)
Of course I did the thing planning my week so that anyway I did not have to do excessive movements or use too much energy, especially in the w/k when I entered the 72 hours non stop. It was my first time so I was scared and tried to be careful.
NOte that in general I'm against strict dieting and crazy fasting, so that was a one off, I usually do not starve myself at all, I just try to be careful with junk food and try to eat very healthy (but tasty:D). Personally though, I now believe that fasting every once in a while may actually be even healthy for the body. The luxury of always having something to eat is something I believe pretty recent and our body evolved with ability to fast.
Finally, as I'm male, I don't know whether the kind of fats that determines my belly is same as for females body
If you don't want to be so drastic as I was, maybe you want to try by just eating when you actually FEEL hunger, and just amounts that never leave you feeling heavy afterward. That's at least something I'm planning to do
I have fasted before. I just gain more weight. it doesn't work
I really should copy this answer to a clipboard and paste it whenever it comes up, like 87 times a day...
You can't spot-burn. You can't choose where the fat comes off of your body. When you do fat burning exercises, it comes off of your whole body in very very thin layers, too thin for the naked eye to be able to pick up except after a few weeks of high intensity exercise. You can spot-TONE, which is where you add more firmness and definition to a muscle that's ALREADY VISIBLE, but that only works if the layer of fat between that muscle and the skin is already very thin. The key to fat burning IN GENERAL is high intensity cardio combined with resistance training AND a healthy diet. Unless you were one of those people gifted with a super-high metabolism, you need ALL THREE of these things to burn fat.
You need to do total body strength training 2-3 days a week using weights, resistance bands, or calisthenics. 20 minutes a day is enough time to get in an intense-enough workout.
You need to do 2-3 days a week of high intensity cardio such as running/sprinting intervals, jumping rope, or other activities like that.
Get into the habit of working out 5 days a week.
Be sure to get in a strong diet that includes enough calories. Many people who are trying to lose fat go on diets that don't meet their caloric requirements which makes their body want to store fat rather than burn it. If you are doing a high intensity workout program like the one I just mentioned, then realistically speaking you should be eating no less than 1500 calories a day (maybe more depending on your size and your workout intensity), roughly 8 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight (this may require taking additional protein supplements such as protein shakes), and try to concentrate all your carb consumption for the day (or as much as you can) into two meals a day: breakfast and your post-workout meal. Only eat whole grains, no white/bleached grains. Only drink water, no soda or fruit juices. Skim milk is okay. Eat fruits and veggies. Eat 5-6 small meals a day rather than 3 large meals.
Need anymore info on this subject, let me know. Following a routine like this is how I've lost ~125 lbs of bodyfat so far.
8 grams of protein per pound of body weight?
that is an insane number lol, where did you get your information from?
you realize that for myself at around 165pounds = 1320 grams of protein, do you have any idea how much that is? 1 gram of protein is around 4 calories, so you are saying 3960 calories just on protein :P
you must have written the above wrong because it doesn't add up ;)
Sorry lol I mean .8 grams haha. the decimal didn't take.
20 minutes will do just fine as long as it's high intensity intervals.
how long did it take you to lose all that weight?
I do exactly what you explained above for the dieting . I only do 20 min. running every other day. and as for strength I do belly dancing and situps. all I lose is where my boobs are. I don't want them to shrink, but it seems like that is whre I keep losing all the weight and my hips and thighs and stomach gets bigger.
Belly dancing and situps don't work the body, they only work the stomach. You need to do total body strength training.
For the running, do an HIIT version.
Total it took me 3 years to get where I am, although most of it happened within the first year.
Honestly, it's easy, but there is so much misinformation out there. Basically, all you really have to do is get enough protein. Aim for about 1g per pound of body weight, or if you really can't eat that much, then 1g per lb of your ideal body weight.
So, if your ideal body weight is 120lbs, then eat 120g protein per day. Good sources are chicken, fish, eggs (mostly the white), protein powder, tuna, tofu, beans (especially soy), lean beef, turkey, etc.
You can split it up into 5-6 smaller meals if that's easier.
There are other things you can do like sticking to whole grains, eating lots of fruit and veggies, and getting healthy fats like olive oil and avocado, but honestly, if you just up that protein high enough, you WILL lose fat.
Definitely drink plenty of water. Green tea also burns fat.
Working out doesn't really make you burn fat unless you do full body strength training a few times a week.
But 90% of it is your diet. And no matter how much exercise you do, or how many ab workouts you do, if you don't eat to lose bodyfat, then none of your hard work will even show.
Yeah, check out low fat or non fat greek yogurt - tons of protein and yummy.
Cardio burns fat, belly dancing and push-ups strengthen the muscles, but they won't burn fat
-30 to 60 minutes of cardio a day(running, jogging, speed walking, zumba, jump roping, swimming etc) The "best" cardio is running, jump roping and swimming, but any form of cardio is better than none
-Strength training 2-3x a week(weight lifting, calisthenics, pilates, yoga etc)
You won't get bulky and muscular by lifting weight. Our(females) hormones keep us from getting bulked up, so unless you train like a female body builder, all lifting weights will help you do is speed up your metabolism and tone up(no flab/less sagging skin if you should lose a great amount of weight)

If you want to lose body fat then the best way to do it is decrease your calorie intake slightly and do lots of cardio! running/jogging is a very good way to do this.
don't eat crappy food i.e. fast food, snacks etc. eat healthily.
If you are doing a lot of cardio then don't cut the calories out too much as that will only cut into your workout and you'll end up not being able to push yourself as hard.
I'm going to be honest here and say this isn't as easy as it sounds, it takes quite a lot of determination and you won't see results over night but trust me you will see the results and exercise makes you feel really good. so even if you don't see the results straight after the exercise you will feel much better about yourself for putting the work in.
be strong and determined and you can achieve it :)
legs lifts are really good for your abs. Lay on your back and keep you back flat on the ground. Straighten your legs all the way and lift them in the air and hold. And do the same thing but instead of holding keep them straight and move them like your walking.
pilates' ab exercise, it makes my stomack flat Or go for a run and wrap your stomack in plastic wrap, I know it sounds weird but it makes you sweat like crazy around the stomack area. And drink lots of water to flush out all the crap in your system.
wouldn't you get skin irritation by raping plastic bags around your belly?
well you have it on when you go for a run, so like an hour or so, I have never gotten any irritation from it, cause you only wrap your stomack and not too tight you still have to be able to breath
ZUMBA (: you can take zumba classes or if you have a wii you can buy the game or get the DVDS. so far it's working for me and it's a really fun and great way to lose weight. Also, as many people said down there, watch your calorie intake. When you don't eat properly, the excercise is not as effective.
Cardio burns body fat and if you want to strengthen your muscles, a simple thing is just to pull in your stomach while sitting, walking or whatever your doing.
for me I gotta say cardio is definitely my answer and it could be yours too.
You can't target fat loss. You'll just have to burn calories and lose fat everywhere until you're happy with the size of your bellay
push up are for your arms and pecs not your stomach do things like sit up and different other ab work outs
i know for me personally walking and doing cardio helps me burn fat and lose some belly fat that I have
The good thing is, when you lose weight the first thing that comes off is your belly fat, so you have to burn calories and fat all over.
when I lose weight I lose weight in my face and boobs. my belly comes last.
There's no such thing as spot fat reducing.
RUN.
yoga. it's so good at toning
Cardio, situps and diet
