How to curb emotional eating and drinking?

Hi I would like advice from folks on how to change my habits.

I have a birthday around the corner and this has me thinking about the need to make positive changes. I have struggled with eating and drinking as a "coping" strategy for excessive stress..I am realizing I am doing myself no favors when I see myself gaining more and more weight, waking up sick or hungover. I tell myself I will stop but I tend to repeat these self-destructive patterns. I had abuse in my past and I have a feeling this is why I am reaching to food and other substances for comfort. This is isolating me further from other people, my potential etc. Any advice on changing bad habits like this would be appreciated.
