Everyone is entitled to their opion, so while you have the right to believe that football is dumb, we have the right to believe it is great. And it is for that reason I will not attempt to argue your stance and point of view on this subject, so in return we ask that you respect our stance and view point on it as well. No one is either right or wrong with this question, because it is simply based on personal preference. But I will add one thing, maybe because you admitted yourself to knowing virtually nothing about the sport, may be one reason why you don't understand other peoples fascination with it, and also football is nothing like sumo wrestling lol. In sumo, its just 2 guys in a tiny little circle, that just try to push the other out. Football is far more complex, its hard to take a question such as this seriously though, when the asker knows nothing about what they are talking about, and instead of trying to learn anything about the sport, you simply say its stupid. That's the wrong approach, to truly grow as an individual, you must question everything, and learn what you do not know. So instead of not understanding something and calling it dumb, try and learn a little about it, before you state your opinions. Food for thought

Teamwork in football is more important than teamwork in almost any other sport. There is also a lot more strategy to football in my opinion, both in how the plays develop and in the bigger picture, like whether to go for a field goal or try and pick up a close 4th down. I think that the stop-and-go style of a football game is far more appealing to fans than games that are constantly in motion because it condenses all the action and excitement into a few short seconds. This makes it more fun to watch. I just think that football is far more elegant and detailed than most other sports.
I only really found it fun in high school.
Being with your friends in the stands, wearing your school colors, everyone is excited and pumped up, and there's a sense of community as you all are cheering for your team. I knew a couple guys on the team so it was fun watching them play and seeing all their hard work and practices pay off during the game. Its fun chanting & cheering & just having a good time. You can't beat the feeling when the (quarterback? whatever the position is called) has the ball and is running towards the end and you realize he might actually have a chance of making it there and with every yard he runs you just get more & more excited and there's like an explosion of joy when he makes a touchdown.
If you haven't watched Remember The Titans, you should. Its a great football movie but its not just about football.
Also, a lot of people watch the Super Bowl because its an event. Its something where you can invite your friends over to watch it & eat a ton of food. and a lot of people watch it for the commercials & the halftime show haha
I can understand it, sports are fun, its entertainment, its excitement when your team wins. I also don't really know a thing about football but I would be willing to learn if someone came into my life that was passionate about it(:

Most American guys grew up playing football in some way shape or form. It might of just been tossing around a football with their dad, playing in the street with friends, it might of been in the school yard, it might of been a municipal league, or a school team. Having that connection with the sport and enjoyment of the athleticism, throwing, catching, running, smashing heads and surviving it, and fighting for every yard in a competitive way is something many of us remember from our youth. We don't all go on to be professionals and make amazing plays in the super bowl, but that doesn't mean we don't enjoy the game. Because of that love for the game, many guys love the sport. They come together to watch it, drink beer, talk sh*t, bet on our team, etc. That alone is a bonding experience, and worth something.
I don't see the point in football! A bunch of (mostly) fat guys standing around (in a huddle) taking their time finally lining up & maybe running & or throwing a ball. It's a boring as watching baseball on TV.
The same with BB 12 minutes of guys bouncing a ball up & back & forth.
That's why I like hockey. Usually end to end action. Most times you can go 5 min or more before a whistle. No girlie slap fights like in other sports. If you take exception to what a guy did to you or your teammate drop the gloves & duke it out!
I'll get a lot of down votes because people don't understand the simple rules in hockey.
I'm with you. I only watch a hockey game IF I have nothing better to do. I will not go out of my way to live my life around a game. From gladiators in the arena to players on basketball court the love for
Compition has always been around for our entertainment. Growing up I didn't like sports
But as I grew older I grew to appreciate it. Everyone has their preference so it's normal to not like them. I for one love basketball and football. We go crazy because we want our team to win! What I don't understand is how you can stick to one team when players are continuously being traded. I liked the eagles but all the players that made be like the team have been traded. It's like when a girl goes to see a show/opera etc..it's just fun. Leave it alone!
This is like asking "why do people watch baseball" or "why do people like nascar".
People just have their preferred sports!i think I'm one of the very rare men who don't watch football
