What could be wrong with him??:(

One of my cousins (a young man in his early twenties) is currently in the hospital.

I went to go visit him today and I was completely shocked at what I saw. He was skin and bones, he had those nose breathing devices, an IV, his nose kept on bleeding, he wouldn't touch his food and he could barely talk.

His mother nor him won't tell us what is wrong with him, he currently has pneumonia which is why he's in there but he began rapid weight loss not too long ago (like 3 months I believe). His mom is a total b*** she doesn't like that we're visiting him or offering our help, she won't even let his sisters visit him.

He used to be a healthy lad (besides getting sick quite a bit when he went to college due to the cold weather up there) but he was a good weight, in fact he was gaining weight the last time I saw him... and now he looks so, scary.

I am worried and my grandmother (his aunt) is almost sick with grief, she cried all of yesterday. She has offered all the help she can and she is forcing me to befriend him which I am not complaining about at all.

I would just like some ideas of what could be wrong with him :((((

Look at something with an adult onset. Is there anything that runs in your family or ethnicity? If Pneumonia is a symptom, it's usually attributed to a symptom of immunodeficiency (leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis) However, pneumonia can sometimes be mistaken for other conditions such as pulmonary hypertension. Try researching online for a disease with adult-onset and immunodeficiency and pneumonia as symptoms.

rapid weight loss could mean cancer, but it's unlikely at such a young age.

Could be cancer or AIDS. both can cause rapid weight loss. You really can't look up anything. Only way to find out is his medical records or ask the doctors but at the same times its HIPPA you have to watch out for. I don't think its right for him or his mom to hide whatever he has

when I hear frequent nose bleeds I think leukemia and people with cancer lose weight really fast they just waste away. does he and his mom knows what's wrong with him?

ohhh but you think they know? can't you ask the doctors? or you aren't considered close enough to get that info?
