How do you control your Acne, any suggestions?

I swear, I just can't curb my Acne no matter what I do!

I drink 8 glasses of water a day, I shower 2 times a day, I lightly scrub my face with a gentle wash cloth once or twice a week, I eat healthier than anybody I know, and it still happens!

Please tell me what you do to keep your Acne in check! If you want give me some tips on what I can do to help it! Thank you!

Okay for the past 4 years I dealt with acne. I started in 6 or 7th grade it was something hormonal I think. Mu acne has cleared up and now I just have some acne scars. Here are some recommendations that actually work:

1. Drink lots of water each day at least 8 cups

2. Clear your face in the morning with a acne cleanser- salicylic acid

3. Use a moisturizer for oily skin- go for oil-free

4. Wear Sunscreen! ( important everyday)

5. change your diet! no sugars because it spikes up your insulin causing you to break out

6. Try soy-milk or dairyfree milk because regular milk has hormones... No dairy

7. Ask your doctor to prescribe you Retin A for your skin- this is like the miracle cream! Just to let you know the first weeks your face breaks out but don't give up because it is so worth it.

8. eat veggies or buy a juicer if you don't like to eat veggies then juice them

9. the clarisonic acne cleansing machine is good with the salicylic acid cleanser

10. Don't touch your face with your hands

11. Change your pillow sheets each week because they have germs

12. no junkfood- what ever you eat your face projects or shows

13. don't squeeze your pimples!

14 try homemade masks such as cinammon and honey; oatmeal masks (these are really good for acne) and try steams ( boil water and once its boiling put the pot on a table and sit on a chair and put a towel over your face for 20-30 min)

15. DOnt put on anything that clogs pores such as makeup or other stuff. Aim for non-comengendic

16. try chaste tree- I know its for women but this is good to regulate hormones and it clears up the face

I studied esthetics and skincare in college, and unfortunately for a lot of people, acne just needs to run its course. The best thing I could recommend would be to visit a spa (this DOES NOT have to be expensive) and get a glycolic acne facial and then follow up with home use of glycolic products.

I could go on and on about the natural causes of acne, but then I would be typing for days. But basically one main cause if retention hyperkeratosis, so essentially, the skin produces skin cells that aren't sloughing off as they should and they are blocking the opening to the hair follicle, the sebum (oil) cannot leave the pore and strains against the wall of the follicle , thus creating inflammation and redness. Glycolic acid helps by chemically dissolving these unwanted skin cells and also helps to reduce post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation aka acne scars.

It's best to start with 10% in the spa, 5% for home use (usually cleanser or toner form) once dailyand once a month you can either go back to the spa to receive a glycolic peel, or you can purchase a bottle of your own from the spa or off EBay. I bought mine from an amazing seller based out of Japan.

yea My issue is that I've had it for years and I'm too old to put up with it and let it affect my social life. I'll look into Glycolic products a little more, and see about some spas I can get to, thank you very much for the advice

Unfortunately nothing much can be done in many cases you have to visit a dermatologist who may recommend topical creams and or ointments perhaps antibiotics or in some cases roacutane under under strict medical supervision

I don't get that bad of acne, I'm really lucky. I just don't drink a lot of soda, I drink water and I just take care of my face.

Okay, I use this really good stuff for my acne but also for my face to make it flawless. It's called veloc!ty facial cleanser, veloc!ty light weight moisturizer and Mary Kay blemish control toner formula 3 and Mary Kay acne treatment gel.

Okay, you use the cleanser in the shower then after your out pat your face dry and use the light weight moisturizer. Then you wait a little while and use the toner. It's a liquid so spread it thin, then when that drys put a thin layer of the treatment gel. Works miraculous!

Also you can buy a acne cream but they burn your face I mean I put the cream on my face and I went to bed and it was like fire on my face so I washed my face and it still burn me.

Finally, I've bought a package of acne products that included a shampoo, a lotion, a cream that smallers your spots and a cream. It really help me but after 2 months of school I was to tired and bored to wake up earlier and do all this stuff.

Well it depends on what skin type you have. And what kind of acne. But I'd reccomend finding a good skin care routine and doing that twice daily. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize. Clean an clear is sh*t by the way. Look into derm lines like Vichy, avene, la Roche posay... Yes it can be pricey but it works. My "holy grail" skin product is bioderma face wash that's in the blue container. Can't remember what it's called ... Sebum something. Helps with oil and acne. Isn't too harsh an won't dry out your skin. Also see your doctor.

I use Clean and Clear spot treatment, its in a silver tube. It works so well for me! I barely get acne anymore, but this stuff clears it up well! Just wash your face before. And dry it. Try a face wash with exfoliated beads.

Yo you really shouldn't shower twice a day, its not good for your hair.

I used to have horrible oily skin, but after using the spot treatment, its under control. And the face wash I use helps keep it smooth. It does occasionally get dry, so I use a moisturiser and is fine.

if it matters, I typically break out around my chin and the area where my nose meets my cheeks, and I don't know how to get rid of black heads :(

You think? If you live near a Walgreens, they can help with what you need. There are these very thin papers that you can press in your supposed oily spots. When you look, and it's stained. You have oil issues. Black heads, I have some too. My sister uses those strips that is almost like waxing your face. They remove them well.

Use a face wash that has alcohol in it, it will dry your skin up

well I don't really do it for the acne,but my face has cleared up with new habits:

-5-6 liters of water a day (sounds impossible,but is quite easy) at specific times

-new diet (way of eating,not weight loss oriented)-vegan,gluten free,no fast food or packaged foods except nuts/seeds/soy

-washing my face twice a day,and mouth/chin area after meals,moisturizer right after

-more cardio

sometimes I use the clean&clear blackhead clearing wash/mask,but usually just soap and water. and maybe moisturizer will block your pores,i don't always put it on,only now during winter and autumn,during summer I rarely put it on

I clean my face twice daily . I use. Avalon Organics vitamin c renewal cleanser gel to prevent aging. I also use say yes to tomatoes pore scrub. I also tone my face with Apple cider vinegar and use the say yes to tomatoes moisturizer . Then you can do a face steaming and clay mask or sebum extraction

I use a face wash called "acne solutions" by the brand Clinique. It's pretty expensive, but my skin has been 50x better using it!!
Another thing you can always try is going to your doctor, they can usually prescribe you some pills / cream you can use to make your acne go away. If your acne is really bad they might even refer you to a dermatologist, and whatever they give you will probably clear your skin up!!

I went to a dermatologist and got prescribed oral antibiotics as well as Epiduo, which both worked really well. Then I also got put on birth control, which helped the most.

Eat your veggies and fruits, what you put inside your body is just as important as the chemicals you put on the outside.


Get a clay mask, it will absorb the oil from the acne

Try face washes, wash your face 2x a day. It might be genetic, see doctor. Stress also adds to it. Distress your life. Dirty pillow cases too. Wash em!

to be honest I scrub my face super hard with a rough wash cloth. my mom said you are removing layers and dead skin so that your pores can breath

My face has always been redder then it should be and one day I went to the doctor because it got puffy and itchy. He put me on an antibiotic for acne, which confused me at the time, but since I've been on it, I haven't had a single pimple and my face hasn't been red either.
