If someone says something like 'there will be nothing left' when you tell them you're losing weight...

If you tell people that you're trying to lose a stone and they say 'there will be nothing left' or 'you'll disappear!' do they actually mean that you don't need to lose weight, or are they just saying it to be polite.

I'm not skinny. My BMI is in the healthy range, but it is at the upper end of the healthy range. If I lose a stone, I will be at my ideal (dead in the middle) weight. I would feel more confident if I lost weight.

I was just wondering if people say those things to make you feel better.
