Do guys hate to say " goodbye"?

I was always taught that it was good manners to say goodbye when you were leaving being around someone. But when I try to say goodbye to a guy I like, like along the lines of " If I don't see you again, have a good weekend." his response is, " you will see me again." Only when its clear that I won't see him again will he quietly say " you too." or he won't say anything at all. When we are talking on the phone and its time to get off, its like a test to see how we are going to say goodbye. There is a pause when he's done talking, like he wants to see if I am going to say something more than just goodbye or talk to you later... but only when I know he's alone. Maybe... he is waiting to see if I'll say something affectionate?
