Has a sports team ever lost and blamed God for it?

I always see when a team wins they credit God for the win and say he deserves all the credit, which implies that God has some kinda interest in one team winning over the other. But I have yet to see a team lose and say that God kept them from winning because he had some interest in the other team winning. Does God have a bookie or something? Is he cleaning up on the bets with these or what?

Not a specific team that I know of, but certain players have. I remember it happened with Adrian Gonzalez with the Red Sox when they had that epic collapse in September 2011 to miss the playoffs. He's like "It just wasn't in god's plan" or something. I don't think you understand how serious we take this sports shit here in Boston, Gonzo.

England vs Argentina in the '86 World Cup - the "Hand of God" goal - even though Diego Maradona actually used his own hand to punch the ball into the goal (hence the alternative name, the "Hand of the cheating crack-addicted Argentinian midget" goal). That's God getting blamed for something he didn't even do!

I jokingly blame "the hockey gods" You can't get too crazy about your team or say their going to win it all because you'll anger the hockey gods.

Oh obviously it's because one team has some satanists and atheists in it... Otherwise every match would be a draw and we'd all be winners.
