As far as I know, it is really common in 3/4 of turkey. Because they are ignorant, they just see women like child-maker machines. So fathers give or sell their daughters to their relatives. It doesn't matter if it is relative or not. Being woman and breathing is enough for them to marry and make babies. On the other hand, there are a little bit more modern cities and these traditions are not in use. Of course there can be conscious people who fell in love with their cousins. But this is for conscious people. Ignorants don't care about loving a woman, they just want a woman for houseworks and babies. They abuse women all the time. They show no respekt and see them as slaves.

its not illegal in their country, and some say they do it to keep the bloodline pure? I don't know if that's bullshit or not.

I am Turkish and I haven't met with anyone who married with their relatives. It is just some bullshit. I have lived both in Turkey and the U. S. and I can say the only difference between these relationship thing is Turkish people love to take it slower with their partners sexually and I guess it comes from our family culture.
Its okay to marry your second cousin as there is no blood relationship whatsoever in that case - only social relationships. Marrying first cousins is different. You should not say the two are the same it's not.
