Why do Africans hate African-Americans?

I was in class Friday and I asked my teacher, "why do Africans look so different from African-Americans?" She replied, "Africans pretty much hate African-Americans. They don't understand why they are being called AFRICAN-Americans when they have nothing to do with Africa."

In answer to your original question, most African-Americans have some European ancestry.

I don't think Africans hate African-Americans. But, have you ever heard the term 'Plastic Paddy'? A 'Plastic Paddy' is someone of some Irish ancestry but no real personal connection to Ireland but who identifies with the Irish culture. Perhaps some Africans view African-Americans in the same way that some Irish view Irish-Americans.

I'm not sure it make sense that they would "hate" them just because of the name they chose. But, I never liked it when it became trendy either. We always called them "black". And they aren't African-Americans at all. No more than I am an English-American or Irish-American (or, I could add a whole bunch more, actually) An African-American means that you are a native African but emigrated to America.

Well, by using that term, then I am white-American or pink-American. And those named focus too much on skiin color itself, which is altogether unimportant. Are you black?

I do not think all Africans hate African-Americans or dislike them. People usually just go by their main ethnicity I guess. For example: Asian American, Korean American, Latino American, etc. I don't know..

They don't hate us just hate that we call ourselves African. And we aren't directly from Africa, we're American or whatever nationality you ID yourself with.

I'm a Moor, but it's racism at its best. Trying to still keep a whole nation divided by trying to keep them classified and categorized as far away from a nation as possible. It's basically still the three-fifths of a man law but in a neater arrangement of wording.

I hope you realize when you identify yourself as a “Moor” you are simply saying you are a sailor. Mooring meaning you steer ships. “Moor” Is a European description of those who were of sea fairing nations. Before Europe came out of the dark ages the vast majority of sea fairing nations where dark skinned so they used “moor” to describe them. Saying you are a moor is no different than saying you are black. There is a misconception around this word, but that is a brief history of the word.

Black describes how you look but doesn’t say who you are or where you come from. A real ethnicity involves some type of geographical location. Examples: Asian, NIGERIAn, etc. Be careful what you call yourself.
