This is a GREAT question. The trick here is that it's not about the dress--it's about your body. So the trick to getting the hottest dress is to start by puttind down the fashion magazines, strip yourself naked, and spend a good 5 minutes looking at yourself in a full length mirror in good lighting. You should be looking for your best features and your worst features. Do this as honestly as possible--don't be too harsh on yourself (VERY common) or too generous. And put yourself in the shoes of the guy looking at you. For instance, some women have just INCREDIBLE breasts, but they are embarassed about them and the attention they draw so they downplay them and end up dressing to feature something less appealing. When assessing your naked body, the things to focus on are your overall figure/shape, your boobs, your butt, your waist, your legs, etc.
Once you've figured out your best and least favorite features, find a dress to accentuate the positive aspects of your body and downplay any shortcomings.

I don't want to sound like a prune, but you do realize that this greatly varies between stereotypes?
To answer your question, it's more what not to wear. Not a fan of trainers and sports gear (unless you're genuinely exercising). Failing to combine colors well is quite bad too. I'm not a fan of flamboyant colors, it just looks too tacky (though sometimes a skillful dresser can surprise me). Classy means different things to different people.
Skirts are always a turn on, whatever encourages the imagination. I'm a fan of tight fitting clothes, even if she's a little chubby and might look silly to other people. If you're going to wear something flamboyant, make sure it's only one clothing article and the let the others be a neutrally plain e.g. colorful tartan-blue skirt, but black top and tights. I'm a massive fan of cute-classy. Clothing with mystery drives me crazy.
For me, simple is always better: I like those little black dresses that fit really closely. No frills, no laces, no bunched bits of extraneous fabric. The better ones seem to either be quite short but no or little cleavage or lots of cleavage and a little longer (but still above the knee). There are plenty of others that I find attractive--and of course, ultimately, it's the girl wearing the dress that makes or breaks it--but what I described is still the ultimate for me.

I like blue or red dresses. And I particularly have a thing for black dresses with red heels. If you're talking about something classy but also sexy, then something tight which shows off her curves but not too short. Maybe an inch above the knee. And sleeveless.
The main thing with a woman dressing up is how her dress suits her body. For me I like a lady in red. A red dress that is shaped to her body and reveals her curves. The dress should go down to her ankles and show a little cleavage. So its comfortable, but has a powerful sex appeal.
Uhmm, I don't really know too much about dresses but if your going for classy and sexy at the same time, something with a nice kind of tight fit. The dress shouldn't show cleavage but should show some legs (it should stop near the middle of your thighs) and the dress should be either red or white.
you need one dress. a black cocktail dress with f me pumps...that is the only dress you need and it looks good on every woman, every body type.
I would think you'd know by now - girls dress up for other girls. Most guys don't care near as much about the wrapping as they do what is in the package.
