The Unsettling Truth About Love in the Modern Age

Betwyn

Now I know I say I don't believe in Love.. and that Love is a lie...Do I believe this, yes.. but... it's not 100% accurate.

origins of love
First, lets look at, Love. Love is patient, love is kind..

Love is unconditional; Love is truth; Love is joy

Love does not fade.. Love is forever..

Now.. Think about those old people you see.. been together 50, 60, 75 years or more... still holding hands...

Now, lets look at what passes for love in the modern era...

Love is anything but patient.. People rush in.. People claim love soo fast.Love now has endless conditions..People lie, to those they "love" if you love each other, why lie?If love is joy, and you are in love, why are you so sad?If Love does not fade... and Love is Forever...Why do people cheat? why do we have divorce? why do people only stay together for the kids?

Love is something people want.

They want to feel 'wanted' 'needed' 'loved'...

So then people meet someone.. get a crush, fall in lust.. and they call it love. But if it truly was love... then it wouldn't end.. wouldn't fade.. wouldn't be all the things that love is not.

People Lie to themselves.

They want to be in love so bad... They want to be happy.. and they feel happiness requires, Love. They lie to themselves about what they have.. sometimes, this sorts out and you break up.. sometimes, this Lie, to make yourself feel better about you have.. about what you are doing.. leads to marriage.. and when it fades.. which it will if it is a lie... Coldness... Divorce... Resentment...

I am particular to the take in Greek mythology. according to Plato's Symposium, human beings originally consisted of the combination of the both the female, and male, in one being. However, Zeus feared the power of the combined human form, and so cut humans into separate males and females, resulting in a perpetual ache of separation and a longing to regain the completeness by finding one's soul mate.

According to Aristophanes "love" is the term describing the yearning and pursuit of each half to re-create the whole, a concept resulting from the split of the original body which featured four legs, four arms, and a head with two faces. Greek mythology shares the soul-mate idea with many other cultures throughout history that have stories to explain the strong energetic connection between two people who often feel more complete with each other, where regular concepts like "friend" or "mate" are not adequate.

People want this.. Crave this... but are not willing to wait for it.. feel it out..They fall into a Crush.. into Lust.. and that person returns the same feelings...

So it must be love right???

Welcome to the Age of Entitlement...Welcome to the Age of I wanted it yesterday...

Love, is a Lie, we tell ourselves....
