Religious Hypocrits

In recent years, months, and weeks, a lot of hypocrisy in religion has been exposed. It has not been the people who have committed these acts that have come forward, but rather the victims, unscrupulous hackers, media outlets, and individuals seeking to expose the truth in the hypocrisy in anything from financial scandals, cheating scandals, child molestation and rape, prostitution, drugs, etc. The perpetrators are individuals who have claimed to have God as the forefront in their lives. Now just to be crystal clear, my problem is NOT with an entire faith or an entire people who believe in the God they believe in, it is solely with those who hold up the bible or their God as an excuse to hate, to judge others whom they feel are not in line with their lifestyle, to persecute others unfairly, or to tell other people how it is they should live their lives, whilst they themselves are doing just about everything their religion says they shouldn't be doing.

These are the type of people who conveniently pick and choose passages out of the bible to justify whatever is happening or that they want to happen, yet ignoring other sections that contradict them or that don't fit with what they think should be happening or simply aren't true or don't apply to people who live in this century. When they are done doing that, and their own hypocrisy is exposed, then they want to ask for your forgiveness and wax poetic about how everyone makes mistakes and everyone's done something wrong, etc. Then after that, these same people want to get upset at people for not easily forgiving them and just forgetting about what it is wrong they have done. How can you for example be out there every other day boycotting and hating something or someone that isn't in league with your religion and never letting that person or that organization forget it, and yet, you want to so easily be forgiven the second your own hypocrisy is exposed and let bygones be bygones. It's hypocrisy of the highest degree. Give me a break!

The golden rule has never changed, and that is to treat others the way you want to be treated. You can't expect to recieve in this life, what you never chose to give out. The bible, religion, faith are not meant to be used for people to hide behind and spread their own brand of hatred, or to judge others. If you want to preach about living a good and holy life to others, then you better live by the words you preach.

I don't think it's coincidence that so many of the bigoted religious are hypocrites. They are probably struggling with urges they try to repress and like most people tend to project their inner struggle on the outside world. When they condemn others they are really condemning part of themselves they can't accept. The problem with this kind of repression is it tend to build up pressure like a boiler with the safety valve stuck until it explodes.

This is an excellent point. I actually think, even beyond religion, anyone living in a situation in which strict rules about how they are allowed to live, tend to find themselves in the same boat. With no outlet to actually make normal, human mistakes, or make their own choices, they do extreme things to try and combat the level of suppression they experience so as to attempt to break free any way they know how.

You are right of course, as a Christian I this hypocrisy all over, to find a true Christian is like finding a diamond, it's possible but very rare indeed.
