The wage gap is basically women get 77 cents to a dollar. This is a well-known feminist argument. They like to tell you this, because they want you to believe women are oppressed.

Men choose higher-paying specializations. The 5 highest paying jobs are petroleum eng, pharma, math/computer sci, aerospace eng, and chemical eng. Men pick these jobs more often than women do.

Let's look at the 5 lowest-paying jobs now. Psychology, early education, theology, human services/community org, and social work. Women pick these jobs more often than men do.

The average man spends 14% more time at work. He's also 9 times more likely to die there. If women were spending more time at work, and were more likely to die, they would be paid more than what they are now.

So, is the wage gap false? Actually, no. It's real, and it's against men. Young, childless women outearn young, childless men by 8%. "In 2008, single, childless women between ages 22 and 30 were earning more than their male counterparts in most U.S. cities, with incomes that were 8% greater on average, according to an analysis of Census Bureau data released Wednesday by Reach Advisors, a consumer-research firm in Slingerlands, N.Y." Thank you for being one of the few women I've encountered who is smart and/or honest enough to see the "wage gap" for what it is... a feminist lie told, like most other modern feminist causes, for the purpose of maintaining a sense of victimhood among women and distrust and hatred toward men.

The ironic thing is that feminists claim the wage gap is due to sexism, and it is, but not at all in the way they think it is. The reason men earn more overall than women is because, despite all the societal changes we've been through, men are still expected to be the primary wage earners, and always will be. Women can do whatever they choose because they have multiple paths to success in life and with the opposite sex, whereas men have but one path if they are to be successful... have a good job and earn good money. Women have choices; men have responsibilities.

You are of course correct about young, childless women out-earning young, childless men, which is primarily because women outnumber men on our college campuses by a ratio of 6:4, and yet all of the gender specific government funding and scholarships are for females, not males. If it were females who were lagging behind in school you'd better believe there would be billions of dollars spent to understand and address the problem (oh that's right, there already is). No one cares about it when it's males, though. So much for equality.

Women's problems are society's problems; men's problems are men's problems. And so it goes... feminist business as usual.

You're very smart, especially for your age. There is no higher pay simply for your genitals, it boils down to skills, time in profession, hours worked, etc. That's why annual salaries are not the best way to determine wage gaps. They should look at hourly wages and account for all the variables to see if there is discrimination based on gender or race. Aside from this, white women earn more than black or hispanic men on average. You don't see them calling themselves "oppressors". Asian Americans enjoy the highest median incomes on average, and it's not due to the system favoring Asians. It's because of personal career choices and skill sets.

People never grasp what the "wage gap" boils down to.

If a bunch of women get married and become mothers who work part time while being supported by a guy who works 40, 50 hours a week--that goes into the "wage gap" stat that she is oppressed and underpaid. If you work part time (and women do work part time more often than men) then you earn less.

Also, women don't pick STEM majors as much. Hence, they earn less.

A bunch of women and men picking their own majors and hours and earning different amounts because of it does not equal oppression.

Another thing is that minimum wage jobs pay... minimum wage. To all genders!
Factory jobs... I earned the same amount as my male counterpart.
Women get paid the same as the male counterpart in lower end jobs at the very least.

The feminist's data collection never compares wages between genders by their occupation. Their sole data just looks into education/gender/race/age. NEVER into the types of jobs these women take and comparing their wages. AAUW and IWPR both does not account for the occupation... The feminist data just does not have any actual relevancy.

The BLS reports DOES, but not only, compare genders by occupation and there's definitely an industry dominated by men. Of course it's the STEM related fields. Women dominate office and administrative support jobs. OF COURSE if you just compare the wages from women from an office job to a man on an oil rig you're going to have a huge wage gap.

I've never known a liberal to be 100% honest on any issue. Now to be fair the vast majority of the liberals I encounter are simply followers who blindly follow their leaders, repeating whatever they say as if it is gospel, without a nanosecond of research to confirm the claim (s). You might want to take a look at what Alan Dorshowhitz (I might have spelled his name wrong) has to say about the liberal college students of today. Throw in the extremist "Black Lives Matter" movement, Michael Bloomberg and his anti-gun crusade, all the Democrats trying to prevent any kind of screening on Syrian refugees, an article on the Huffington Post recently that demonized all white people simply because they're white and the fact that liberals try to push policies that we fought a revolution to get away from and it's a mystery why people support them to me...

It would be one thing if these groups were just noise but liberal politicians like Obama, Clinton and Sanders embrace them, hence it's liberals embracing these radical views, not these radical views calling themselves liberals.

This argument is usually quoted by high school feminists or early University feminists. They have no idea how the world works and think everything written on some biased feminist blog is fact. Anything that has ever worked for a billion dollar corporation knows that HR is far to massive to ever play favorites. Pay scale is based on job title. Anyone hired for X title is paid X amount. It is automated. Sex, race, religion means nothing to the software. Every year you are given a review that gives X% raise.

I think a key factor is that we can easily see that men choose high paying professions more than women.

The same bias is happening within professions, as men choose the highest paid niche, the higher paying company, the higher paying department, while women give more weight to other factors.

Men essentially sacrifice happiness for money more than women do.

They will continue to do so as long as their money is a major factor in terms of their value in the dating market.

Actually the way gap does exist but the general public (being the uneducated general public) didn't understand that the gap was originally measured in very specific like fields.

What this means is that a male COO will make 30% more than a female COO of equivalent skill. It was never a "catch all" and never meant to compare across the board professional choices.

There has been no solid study taking this fully into account that's able to prove the wage gap. On the other hand, a lot of studies have repeatedly discovered heavy flaws in the studies. flaws strong enough to debunk them as inacurate.

While it does not effect low earners minorities of any given situation as well as those who have average or below average public education are going to get stung by this thing.
