Why are women attracted to men with money?

Question

Why are women attracted to men with money. I could understand that concept if it was 1920 where women didn't nearly have the same rights/ access to making wealth as men.

But in todays world, women can make the same money as men. Money isn't part of the man. It is something he posses and isn't directly part of him.

I could understand that a women could a like taller man, handsome, nice eyes, muscle build or anything Directly part of him.

But money isnt. If women want money all they have to do is go and work for it like everyone else

So what is it ? I find that if a woman goes for a guy with money, it implies she can't get it any other way

girls are competative. they compete between other girls. guys compete between other guys too. and depending how they rank among men, they feel better about themselves. it works the same way for girls.

the only difference is, for guys, it's about who has more sex, with more girls, and with the best looking girls, without having to do as much to have said sex. when a guy feels he's significantly higher relative to other men in this department, he feels better about himself as a man.

for girls, it's about who has the bigger house, in the more expensive area, the more expensive car, the more expensive jewlery, the more expensive clothes, the most luxurious vacations, and of course, more of them and bigger than the ones her girlfriends had or will ever have. when a girl feels she's significantly higher relative to other women in this department, she feels better about herself as a woman.

the only problem is, this stuff costs a lot of money, and money doesn't grow on trees. money takes time and hard work. and to be quite honest, we're lazy. we're not totally lazy, but compared to everything we want, and what we actually have to do to get the money to afford all of it, f--- that, we're lazy.

so a girl thinks, if I had to accumulate enough wealth (money, power) to have item X, and item X costs Y units of effort and Z units of money; it would take me 50-60 years just to have it and not have anything else.

but if I found a guy who was rich, it would take me much less time than that to have what I want; because he already put in the effort so he can have the money to get what I want.

so rather than make it our long-term goal to build up our human capital by schooling & work experience, and then work hard and save, then invest smart, until we have what we want; it's just much easier to try and find a guy who will or would have already done all of that.

but the reason it's easier is because men make it easier. men are generally honest, which makes them naive and stupid, and easy targets to manipulate. rich men aren't as easy as other guys, but there are still some rich guys that can be conned; especially if they're really old.

they'll tolerate no sex or a lack of sex, which buys you time to establish a relationship, and by that time, it's cost them enough money to not want to back off until they have sex, which is perfect because that's where you want them; spending more money. now, if he's really rich, you just pull the "good-girl" morality card, and make up a reason why you don't "believe" in sex until marriage, or that you feel it'll be more special if you wait, and you appreciate how much he respects you for it. then you simply never agree to a pre-nup, get married, wait a year or two depending on the state laws, and file for a no-fault divorce.

then you can repeat and have even more stuff. much better than working.

My ex was very stingy with his money, he would rather spend it on beer than on taking me out somewhere. After he lost his job he would freeload off of me and at first I didn't mind it but then it just got annoying.

Seriously why would a girl date a guy with no money ( unless she's young and hasn't experienced otherwise). What does a man have to offer when they're broke?

This probably means he has no car or gas money. Can't pick you up or take you out to places whenever its available. Can't treat you to anything that you wouldn't be able to treat youself to, then once a decent guy who has more to offer comes along its sayonara to you.

And yes money does have something to do with the guy. When a guy has a job he's more disciplined, more mature. You have to have those qualities to keep a steady job. He respects the woman and can treat her like she's worth something. And treating her like she's worth something doesn't mean spending tons of money on her all the time. Just a guy who gives her what she needs and simple treats every once in a while are guys worth looking for.

For starters, some women are shallow like that. not all. I personally don't care how much a guy makes. well I guess that's not entirely true since I sometimes get insecure if he makes way, way more than me. I do, however, like to know that he's not going to just sit there and mooch off me. Also, a job is really important to me because it suggests that he does something other than sit on his ass and mope all day.

That said, it's easier for men to make big money than for women. Women still make .75 cents to the dollar compared to what men would make doing the exact same job. Also, in many professions men still hold the majority of the highest paying jobs. Sure, they're are lots of exceptions but they're definitely not the rule.

I think for most part this is a negative stereotype against women and just represents some women. I don't think most care that much so long as you have a job- Read: You don't sit around all day and can support yourself. Though it's a bit better if you can maybe even afford to treat her occasionally, too. (It makes her feel special).

I'm not attracted to money in particular. I like men with stability and direction, not so much so that I rely on them, I've just dealt with men in the past who complain about going no where in life and I find it terribly unattractive.

Most women I know intend to go out and make their own living, provide for themselves, I think the idea of being reliant on a man kind of frightens them.

And no money isn't part of anyone, but sometimes women intend to be stay at home mums, (or dads)

Also women can't make the same money as men, in certain jobs where the employer could care less about who you actually are and you're only working for chump change then maybe they can earn the same as their male counterparts, but for the most part they don't.

Why do men have the misconception that all women are interested in is money?

That's a good question. In this day an age where women can make loads of money and NOT need a partner to live...There should be lots of room for a woman to explore and find a guy that is truly compatible with them, even if he makes significantly less money than she does but alas:

...Most women are just as chauvinistic as any guy can be, they will look down on a guy if he makes less money and consider him socially inferior or unsuitable. Sounds messed up but in our society that but of programming runs pretty deep in our social conditioning. I don't know too many women that like the idea of "supporting a man that everyone(in her social circle) is going to call a LOSER"

Sounds harsh and I am sure there are many women who would snub tradition and go where the heart leads them but most women would snub the guy that is more compatible for a guy who is less compatible but has better finances.

Have to say the truth the way it is. Its hard to beat the program...It can be done but its harder if you don't see the truth first...Good or bad.

In todays society, money is a symbol of security and a means of ensuring comfort.  Women tend to be naturally more security focused, since need to have a stable environment to nurture children and otherwise live in.  The fact that money only provides the illusion of security and comfort doesn't override the lessons most people, male and female, learned as children, that money will provide for better health, transportation, housing and almost every other aspect of a comfortable life.  Money can't be counted on for these things, since it is nothing more than paper, or electrons, representing concepts of value.

Hi jakay. So I think you need to look beyond "money as a possession." Money is also a reflection of a man's capabilities. This isn't a universal correlation - some men inherit their money and have next to zero capabilities. But generally speaking a man's financial status is a good reflection of his ability to build a life with a woman. And that brings us to the key point.

I think is because money = power. And most women like a man who can take care of them.

And YES, I do agree most women are shallow and we are in a way hypocrites about it. I am being brutally honest. and some women might hate me for saying this.I am a woman, and I have my own business, and I've got plenty of single female friends in my circle.

When we are hanging out , (girls night out or whatever)most of our conversations is regarding men. One girl will say,."I met an incredible guy, and he drives a BMW." The other will say, "My guy has his own business" OR "This guy has loads of money".

So YES, most women are attracted to men with money, but that is just a fantasy that our society has created.

But at the end, (most of the time) they'll alway be an average Joe who will sweep us off our feet!

most women are attracted to men who are well set in the world, and have made a name for themselves, they're attracted to power and influence! especially stability!

most of these come with money!

but, personally, I believe that when you truly love someone, their paycheck doesn't matter! what does is how much they put into the relationship and how he treats you and makes you feel!

if you are in love with someone, they are enough for you just the way they are, they add so much to your life and they complete you! their finances is not what does all of this, its them, who they are inside!

also, no woman want to be with a guy that has no kind of ambition and intends to live off her for the rest of his life!

Well some women don't want to work for it, they just want it to be given to them, aka Golddiggers. But some women are looking for stability, not only financially but emotionally, because guys that make good money, tend to have a steady job. If a someone has a steady good job this shows that that guy has a drive to make something of himself and often holds more values, then say the guy that sits around and collects unemployment or worse yet, still feeds off of his parents when he's an adult.

P.S. It's a nice thought, but women don't really have the same earning potential as men. Yes, there are some women out there that hold jobs where they make the same as their male peers, but in general that truly isn't how it works. Plus the higher paying jobs in general tend to go to men.

If money falls in her lap, then she would take it, the same way guys have sugarmommas.

It would be easier for a girl to do nothing and stay home with the kids, then work and take care of the house, children, husband. Same with guys: watch sports, drink beer, demand oral sex on them. (not in that order)

I guess its just an easy way toward something better. (just not for the guy)

I think initially women are attracted by stability in guys which can turn into gold digging.

Like in nature, how some female birds are more attracted to the male birds who have built a better nest (urg, I can't remember the species of bird, and I'm too lazy to look it up. XD )

I'm really turned off by the idea of being attracted to money because I've been surrounded by petty rich boys that lived in the town I grew up in.

If the guy I marry turns out to suddenly have money, I won't complain.

Women who are intelligent and psychologically healthy earn their own money from a profession of their choice. Those who are the opposite earn "their" money from men, by selling their integrity (soul) and body; if you call that a "profession", that would be "privitized hooker". You do see many of these driving Mercedes in rich neighborhood.

I am making more than enough these days and i am quite attractive physically as well.
