Does anyone else notice that most professional singers are good looking?

It almost always seems like popular singers are always good looking. There are very few unattractive singers which seems odd

Do you mean like, famous singers? Or like, professionals as in, from people who do Pubs and Clubs to people who perform sonatas at the Vatican, etc. and also tabloid professionals and bollywood singers, etc. I expect you are not referring to the mystical Bauls of Bengal, or the musical variety of Fakir travelling the Middle East? Not counted among your definition of singers, I imagine, are the early, emaciated Cajun singers like Canaray Fontenot or Bois Sec Ardon, nor the shattered, old, overweight Folk singers along the Canadian border. Are you including the Neo-Volksevich Satanic Black Metal of Norway in the 80s? Or perhaps, the freaks of Harlem in the 20s, such as Fats Waller?

What I'm saying is; those who penetrate Hollywood fit Hollywood, and Hollywood remains. There are lots of singers, however, that are not so, but are equally professional. The aesthetic is different from scene to scene, from country to country, from genre to genre.

Because unattractive singers aren't given the chance and/or the unattractive people that are just barely attractive enough have tons of make-up (and, in some cases, plastic surgery) to make the cut. Why do you think everyone was like "Ugh! Susan Boyle!? What's she doing on stage!?"?

it takes more than talent in hollywood. The few who are just so awesome that looks don't matter, like Chuck Norris and Morgan Freeman(they're both invincible).

Youth and attractiveness sells, that's the way the media is and advertising too. They want someone who has talent and looks good. If this wasn't the case there probably would be more unattractive famous people and no photo shopping magazine/album covers.

Most people can look fairly attractive if they're in shape and have a stylist ... which, by the time artists get popular in today's era, they do (for media apperances, anyway).

Most professional singers are attractive because they were treated favorably their whole life and thus had the confidence to sing. That's why they have average to high self esteem and a knack for getting on stage.

It's amazing what you're capable of doing with a good amount of praise, encouragement and mental conditioning.

From then on, it's about which record label/producer finds you and promotes your talent.
