The Massacre in Orlando is Now the Worst in American History

It seemed like it was going to be a fun time for people heading to Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, but this fun time had soon turned deadly.

On early Sunday morning at 2 a.m., Eastern time, a heavily armed gunman had open fired with a AR-15 type rifle and handgun in the packed nightclub, killing 50 people. 53 people, including a police officer were also wounded in this deadly attack, and were rushed to the hospital.

The suspect had been identified as Omar Manteen, 29 of Port Lucie, Florida. He was a security officer and was licensed to carry a firearm. His father, Mir Seddique, says that he is "in shock", and stated that his son had previously expressed anti gay thoughts, which may have lead up to the attack.

Other media outlets have said that the gunman was Muslim, but his father has stated that this had nothing to do with religion, and was only in unfortunate mishap.

FBI Special Agent Ronald Hopper says the case was being reviewed as a terrorist attack, either domestic or international. It is unclear if the shooter was alone on this attack, but they are seeing if this attack was connected with radical Islam or not.

According to USA Today, Police Chief John Mina said the tragedy began at 2:02 a.m., when three police officers engaged the suspect in a gun battle outside the club. A hostage situation then took place inside, and a SWAT team was called in, Mina said. Police received updates from patrons trapped in the club, and decided to storm the club at about 5 a.m.

The shooter was then declared dead at the scene.

"Our biggest concern was further loss of life. We exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and he was dead at the scene."

The events that took place at Pulse is now officially declared as the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

Pulse is asking for your support through these tragic events.

My thoughts on the tragedy...

Why does stuff like this keep occurring? Just not too long ago, Christina Grimmie was declared dead in the same exact city the day before this occurred, now 50 people are dead as well? When will this violence stop?

It is sad that people have to go on killing sprees in the name of religion, or just simply out of spite. According to several news outlets, they are investigating if this was a terrorist attack or not, but if it was, why? People should not use their religion as justification to kill innocent people who were out to have a good time. Killing innocent people is never justified, and should never be okay. I'm glad that the shooter is dead, though, so he cannot harm anymore. Extremists and radicalism of ANY group of people do more harm than good.

Who cares if these people are gay? They were only living their lives, just like anybody else. They did not deserve to die for expressing their sexuality. They are just like you and me on the inside, and killing innocent people does nothing at all. It only causes more conflict and further divides us.

To put it simply, it feels like the world is going to crap. All of these killings that were literally hours apart. When will this violence end?
