The unfortunate answer is “time.” I have had breakups and even a divorce that is still painful in my chest. Talking about it helps a little in the beginning, but too long and it hinders letting go. Your normal routine, hanging out with friends, movies, books and work are all good distractions. However, the only true blue tested way is to allow yourself to feel the pain, accept it, cry or scream or punch a pillow and then begin to let it go. Those steps work for all life pain. Although they all don’t take the same amount of time to heal. Hope this helps. It’s not my place, but you are worth more than a friends with benefits. Find someone real!
