Why does my ex tell me to block him?

My ex broke up with me 4 months ago. In those 4 months he has not left me alone, usually when drinking but not always. Tells me he loves me etc.
I’m just over it bc he seems like he’s afraid to commit seriously.
I’ve done the whole blocking thing and It doesn’t matter if he’s blocked, he’ll call me on *67. At the moment he’s unblocked and in the past 8 days he’s contacted me 3 nights. I haven’t responded any. Last night he called me 15 times and texted me 10. This morning he texted (soberly) Me “just block me already”. I don’t know why he cares bc either way he contacts me..

Coz he wants to erase all things that is connected to you, after you block him he is sure that you won't ever say anything and he will never have to deal with your again ever
