Is it OK to call a guy you are dating "babe" or "baby"?

Question

I been dating a guy now for about 3 weeks and I sometimes feel like I wanna add something flirty like "babe" to my text messages ^_^ 

However I don't know if it's appropriate or not. He sometimes calls me "love" when we text but that's about it. He's been going through a rough time with studies and I just wanna send him something cute like "thinking of you babe" but yeah.. I don't know if it's right to say it to someone who's not actually my boyfriend yet.

Calling him these pet names like "Babe" on your end, may send messages to him that you are trying to be "More" than Affectionate, like getting into something more serious and he himself may not find It-----Appropriate.
Don't chance it. Either call him "Love' or even "Sweetie' is okay... I call everyone that.

Yes i think that's cute when girl calls a guy "Babe" or "Baby" that's
so sweet of them.. I have a female friend calls me Babe i have no
complaint about it.. I had another girl i loss contact with she would
call me Babe all the time too.

It is simply a term of endearment and totally cool between a man and a woman. It's like when I call a woman a baby girl... it's more like an involuntary hug that's never planned and often elicited from me due to a certain emotional circumstance. Trust me, when it occurs it will be at the right time and with the right tone that will make you feel better. It simply has to be experienced to be understood. So, a girl calling me babe or baby sounds down right natural and pleasing to me. However, If a man called me baby I would kick his teeth in. Just saying, Ya know?

I truly believe that a big factor that plays into this is nature and future. Let me explain, my parents always address each other as "sweetheart" or "honey" never "babe" or "baby". So naturally I call my girlfriend that, but she grew up with folks that called one another by "babe" or "baby" so wi th that being said it was kind of a culture shock between us two as we've called other what we've each perceive to be the right way or proper ettiquite of addressing your special someone. Now we've dated long enough that I can call her babe without second thoughts. Lol.:)

I've always felt that those kinds of "generic" pet names for each other are juvenile and annoying. If you're going to call me something other than my name, give me a unique pet name/nickname that has a story behind it that is unique to me.

Better stay to the "thinking of you" for the time being but it depends how he behaves when you are together... a bit conservativeness until he shows you what he feels about you is not bad. If he did that, you can say whatever you want.
