Is a simple tongue piercing really that much of a deal breaker?

A guy I like and finally spoke with had seen that I had my tongue pierced and literally straight up walked away.. i had been curious about him because I always caught him staring at me and I smiled at him a few times and said hi in passing and magically after weeks and weeks of just blankly staring he struck up a conversation with me. I noticed during it he kept giving me weird looks and glancing at my mouth, i kinda didn’t get why as I have had it for years I tend to forget it’s there and after staring he kind of looked back up at me and cringed and ended it really abruptly and interrupting what I was saying, with “okay, maybe i’ll see you around” before that he was asking tons of questions and asked if I wanted to get coffee sometime. yeah, I did see him again and he certainly didn’t follow that up. I heard him telling his friends about it (which is how I know it’s about that) and he said “no way, she doesn’t look the type.” and he was just saying how its a turn off and I must be trashy. he’s 24 and a med student maybe he thinks he’s above me for some reason? (Im 19) he didn’t ask my age though. but is a simple piercing really that much of a big deal?
