I'm honestly pretty indifferent to how my mother considers my girlfriend, while on the other hand my fiancée, who has always been very close to her parents, thinks it's very important for my mother to approve of her and her parents to approve of me.
She really wanted to get close to my mom and I think she succeeded, and it honestly makes reall happy even if I didn't care about it before.
I admit that for some reason I really like that my mother adores my fiancée and was overjoyed when we made the announcement.

I actually stopped contacting my mother because she refused to meet my first girlfriend over Christmas (my first was black and my mother did not care for black people). I haven't contacted her since -- I think it's been almost exactly 20 years now.

But it's somewhat important to me that my father approves. He's always been a much more reasonable person (at least when sober), and I got his blessing for my wife.

Well, to avoid sounding too callous for shutting down contact for 20 years, I should say that was the last straw was her refusing to meet my girlfriend. She was intolerable for years before, inviting strange guys into our home including one who stole all my most valuable possessions and our family car while blaming us for him leaving, things of this sort.

I don't wish her any ill feelings, mind you. I hope she's doing well. But it was such a huge relief to just have her out of my life.

She was one of those types that joined church groups to organize protests against homosexuals, like protests against Disney for hiring homosexuals -- the signs weren't quite as extreme as Westboro but also a Baptist church.

This really depends on the mother and if she is toxic or not. If she isn't toxic then I would say most would love to have their mothers involved in their life.

Approval from a parent on who you should be with for the rest of your life however is a really "BAD IDEA."

Parents shouldn't have children just to make them do whatever it is they want and that includes picking a partner.

It is not important. To be honest I'm rather with my family than the family of my boyfriend. He agrees. I'm glad that he will move next year to my village and he is out of his parents home. They are heavy smokers and alcoholic. Can't imagine what he had to endure all his life.

So my ex boyfriend his mom snooped on my Facebook page, and judged my lifestyle & the type of education I received because I didn’t do college. It was gonna be our first weekend spending overnight at my place. He wanted to be honest with me so I appreciated that. I knew after that there would be some little thing she didn’t like about me. She even told him our relationship wouldn’t last long. He ended things saying that he didn’t see a future with me in it and I felt things were lacking in the relationship we had. Having a boyfriend as a mammas boy is a turn off for me now.

Thanks I just knew after that there will always be some weird vibe between us. He didn’t want to introduce me to his parents bc he didn’t want my feelings being hurt If something weird was to come up. I opened him up meeting my cousins at a bbq over the summer and my mom was In the city for work so she was glad to meet him. Just one of those testing the waters relationship.

For me, no. And I suppose for most people. I couldn't care less if my mom liked my girl. They will not live together so they don't need to get along. Example from real life is a friend of my dad. He lived in the same house with his parents and his mother would not approve of his then fiancé. Apparently things got pretty heated and the guy actually left the house, and few months later actually married the woman, and moved to Australia. He didn't speak to his mom for almost a decade or so as I've heard. Nasty stuff. If my kids are about to make a mistake I can say it but I will not enforce it. They as adults take full responsibility.

As a guy no, I couldn't careless about what my mum thinks in regards to who I'm dating, sure it would be a bonus if she did approve, but it's partly because I know her standards are too high in a way and have seen her tear apart nice girls that my brother was dating, and partly because I like to keep my relationship 'separate' from family, so in the end it wouldn't matter all to much.

In the past, literally everything she did around my mum was for her approval and her approval only, so I would guess it's important for a girl 🤔 I'd pretty much do the same around her mum and dad.

I think it's important to have parental approval. Luckily both her parents and my parents love us and our relationship. Her mom thinks I am the best thing that ever happened to her and my mom thinks she is the best thing that ever happened to me.

That is also why all women try to be evil, so the mom won't approve, and then supposedly you will think she is great.
