How can I return the expensive gift my girlfriend bought me?

Question

I will try to keep it as short as possible, So recently my G. F gifted me something I think is very costly and I think is a bit too far because we are both medical students and fee's... I am looking to somehow return her gift and don't be trashy about it or somehow negate the consequences. I have tried to talk to her about it and it doesn't work out very for me, She shut me off by saying "its her prob not mine"

@AlphaGhost I think you are person who believes in Giving but not comfortable with receiving stuffs or gifts from someone if you feel responsible for your partner who is making an investment on you and think that the cost of the gift could be used to do other imp and useful stuff I understand it I guess but sometimes in relationship you have to allow them to do something for you also and you have to learn to accept and appreciate it.
Do you have any doubts about your relationship or its just that you are overwhelmed by her gesture? Anyways if you are not feeling comfortable just wait for sometime and know what she likes and gift it to her. And donot fall for the power battle let go of that and appreciate each other for healthy relationship and you also clear her that next time she could discuss with you before doing big gestures..

Do not I repeat do not return the gift, there is a book that covers this called the 5 languages of love, you returning a gift to her, especially one that requires sacrifice on her part would be like you shoving the love she gave you back in her face,, it is not about the cost of the gift for her it is a way of doing something special for you and it is an expression for her,, it is the intention behind the giving of the gift that counts in her mind...

The fact alone that she went out of her way to buy you this expensive gift, despite her limited budget, should be an indicator that she cares for you enough to give you that present.

Returning it is equivalent to not appreciating the gesture, not so much the value of the present. Keep it and cherish it. You would only succeed in upsetting her by not wanting the present and indicating that she did something wrong. That is the most inappropriate gesture you could do.

You could tell her that you feel bad because you cannot reciprocate but that you will always love the thought that she had and that you feel honored to have received such a unique present. By wanting to return it, you indicate that your relation is not worth that present.

Just keep it. No matter how much it cost, she brought it for you and she wants you to have it. I think its very disrespectful for you to return it. She didn't have to get you a gift but she did because she thought you would have liked it. She wouldn't want you to return it and she would upset about it

I don't think there really is a way out of this. Just try to support her in the ways that you can to pay her back. Maybe start cooking at home for the two of you. Maybe take her out on inexpensive dates (like picnics).

Apologize for wanting to return the gift, but ask her to see your point of view. Let her know that you appreciate the gesture, but you want her to spend the little comfort money she has on herself in the future. returning the gift can be quite considered an offense since she wanted to make you happy and all she got was "no thanks" in return. What could possibly be worse than that? You don't want to insult her like that. You can however let her know "you didn't have to do that but i still appreciate it because i love you".

There is no way you can return it unless if you two have broken up. My advice, keep it, appreciate it and appreciate her kindness to you. If the gift is something you can wear, like an expensive watch, wear it everyday.
