I have been "crushing" on my sensei a bit lately. Before he became my sensei. I dont know if he likes me back, though

I was just curious on what the dynamics are within Dojo's. Is it strictly forbidden or is there more of a grey area?

Yeah. My senseis often have had their spouses be part of my club. It depends of course on the dojo's rules and such - my club is a non-profit organization, so we're not employees, but for-profit clubs could consider their instructors staff.

If you've not asked him out already, do so, but consider that you might need to adjust how you practice.

I've brought my dating partners to my club before, and even taught them, and it's posed no issues. But I also drew very strong boundaries and my ex couldn't cut it so he stopped going.

I don't think there'd be a problem. Though I'm not as familiar with dojo dynamics.

My mother has taught martial arts and self defense most of her life, and after she split from my dad I'm pretty sure she's gone out with one of her students at least once.

But there's also less emphasis on the ceremony of martial arts with my mom's classes. So I'm not sure.

I'd say ask him out. Worst thing that can happen is he says no.
