Why do I always miss my crushes hints?

Basically I’ve had a crush on this girl for years since middle school. We never was “friends” we would text sometimes but never actually hang out outside of school. When we graduated high school I had already left school the before and transferred so we didn’t see each other for about two years. We meet up and we just had a lot of sexual tension between us. Then she goes so what do you want to do? When we are just chilling smoking. I instantly knew what it meant but was too nervous to make a move. Fast forward that was like 2016 present day. I moved back to our hometown and I text her sometimes. So yesterday I call her. She calls me back and we’re talking and basically I was trying to see her and she kept saying how she was in for the night but she didn’t say she didn’t want to see me. She just said she didn’t want to leave the house. It wasn’t registering at the time. Then when we hung up it hit me. All I had to do was say can I come over and she would’ve probably said yes. She said she was about to go to sleep so i could be wrong. So I texted her asking if she was still up and can I come over but she was sleep by then or another guy got the chance 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤣🤣 but yeah why do I miss her hints. We aren’t “friends” and we’ve somehow stayed in touch. We first met in 2008 now that I’m older it’s clear we both like each other somewhat. Now that I’m grown I don’t care about rejection as much when I was younger. Yesterday I just fumbled the bag. How do you pick up on a woman’s hints? I’ve learned that she probably has the same crush on me as I have on her. So next time do I just go for it or if she gives me hints try and catch them. Or just go for it anyway next time I see her?
